The Indian Test team visiting England has been asked to stay indoors for the majority of the tour, following the positive result in the covid-19 test for the all-format skipper, Rohit Sharma.

There are no bio-bubbles or restrictions in England at the moment but the BCCI wants its players to limit their public appearances. The cautionary measure has been taken after the previous tour where the fifth Test was postponed after covid complications.

The board has scolded some players over their habit of hanging out in public. It also seems some players went in public and clicked pictures with fans, which could be dangerous.”

We told them to stay careful but they still often roamed around in the city which is not required, so we asked them again to take precautions,” a source in the BCCI was quoted as saying to ANI.

The one-off Test between the two sides gets underway on July 1 at Edgbaston. The series technically stands at 2-1 in favour of India, having secured wins at Lord’s and The Oval’s in 2021.

However, things stand differently this time around, with major changes in the team composition. While England has a new captain-coach duo of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, Rohit has also replaced Virat Kohli as the skipper.

India’s Test squad for one-off Test:

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Srikar Bharat (wk)
