IND vs ENG : 5 Indian Players Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Series

India take on England in a three-match ODI and T20I series after the rescheduled Tets match which starts from July 1. The white-ball series starts from July 7 starting with the T20Is. Before playing England, India will host South Africa for a five-match T20I series in June. Both the series will be a dress-rehearsal for the T20 World Cup later this year.

The BCCI has already announced the Test squad for England. They have also announced the T20I squad for the home series against South Africa. Several young players including Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh have been included. The selectors have prioritised their IPL performance while naming the squad and hence the inclusion of these two names makes great sense.

It is expected that the white-ball side against England will also have a few of these players. The competition is already tough to get selected in the Indian squad and the England series will be a tough one as well. A few players might find it hard to break into the squad and might not get a game. In this article, we take a look at five players who might be benched from the entire T20I series against England.

Venkatesh Iyer

Despite his poor returns in IPL 2022, Iyer has been selected in the India squad for the South Africa series. With Hardik Pandya also included in the squad, he will not get to play all the games. Hardik is expected to be selected in the Indian squad for the England series as well. If Venkatesh Iyer is also selected, he will warm the benches as the side will not play two all-rounders in the playing XI.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad is another player who is expected to warm the benches if he is selected for the England series. Rohit Sharma will likely return to the side in England given that his experience will be key. If that is the case, he will open the batting with KL Rahul and Gaikwad sadly have to sit on the sidelines.

Ishan Kishan

Kishan has been selected in the T20I squad for the South Africa series. If he makes it to the squad for the England series, there is a possibility that he might warm the bench there as well. Kishan has been impressive in his short international career so far but might find get a game against England.

Axar Patel

Patel has not had the best of IPL seasons in IPL 2022. He might get selected in the England series due to his all-round abilities. However, Ravindra Jadeja is expected to get fit for the series in time. Along with Hardik Pandya, he will be the preferred option over Axar as the second all-rounder in the playing I. Thus the left-arm spinner might see him not get to play many games.

Mohammed Siraj

Siraj has been a better red-ball bowler than white-ball bowler in the recent past for India. He conceded the most sixes in IPL 2022 and even if he is selected in the Indian squad for the England T20I series, it is very likely that he might not get any games. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami might be the preferred option along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar who can swing the ball.
