Former English bowler Darren Gough believes that Virat Kohli will soon regain his best form and start scoring centuries.

Sachin Tendulkar was one of the greatest cricketers of all time, and the only player to come close to matching his rank in Indian cricket is none other than Virat Kohli.

During India’s 2011 tour of England, Virat ended up scoring a century (107 off 93 balls) in Cardiff in the final match of the five-match ODI series, and Gough mentioned he instantly knew then that he’d be the player who could be India’s next Tendulkar.

“Wow… I remember thinking Tendulkar was a great player when I first saw him play in England. Although Virat Kohli is right up there with him in terms of brilliance, he was brilliant—a genius even. Amazing cricketer, full of style and aggression—exactly what I was looking for. In addition to being strong against spin, he can handle the short ball. He occasionally wears the cap, which demonstrates his haughtiness” Darren Gough said.

Darren Gough claimed that Virat is constantly going through the same period that Joe Root had. But after he achieves a hundred, he will regain his self-assurance, and the legendary cricketer will not look back.

“He needs to resume scoring in the hundreds. We have seen Joe Root go through that phase in the past—many times in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. However, I have a feeling that once Virat succeeds, he will simply keep going—100, 100, 100. And Joe Root has carried out that. Virat is in that phase right now, and he just needs to score the first goal to start making money for the next three to four years “said Gough.

Virat Kohli will return to India’s T20 team for the second T20 against England at Edgbaston after a five-month absence.
