After losing three straight series, India will have a fantastic chance to halt England’s dominance at home in the fifth Test beginning on Friday at Edgbaston.

They simply need a draw because they are up 2-1. However, compared to the England team that bowed out humbly at Lord’s and The Oval in 2021, this team has improved.

Graeme Swann Having Mixed Feelings For Virat Kohli

Last time Virat Kohli was captain of the national side, however, this may not be the case this time. Former English spinner Graeme Swann commented on the statement.

“It could be a good thing for Kohli. It’s done wonders for Root. He has been incredible since, not having to worry about captaincy, just concentrate on batting.

I do rather want to see Kohli perform well on one hand because I am a huge fan of his, but I don’t want to see it against England in this Test as that hands the advantage back to India.,” the veteran spinner said.

Swann supports former Indian captain Virat Kohli in his goal to quickly regain his best form and thinks that cricket needs a strong Virat Kohli. Considering that Kohli’s most recent international century was in 2019, he has been going through a difficult patch.

Virat Kohli Show Good Signs During India’s Warm-up Game

The previous captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore also put up a lacklustre performance in the IPL this year, scoring 341 runs in 16 innings, including two half-centuries.

However, the unconventional Indian batsman produced a magnificent half-century against Leicestershire in the exhibition game. Kohli, who has been going through a protracted slump, added five boundaries and two sixes to his 67-run performance.

The 33-year-old batsman maintained his composure and was quite cool throughout his innings, until he lost focus and attempted to guide the ball past the backward point, where he was caught and forfeited his wicket to Leicestershire’s Jasprit Bumrah.

India hasn’t named a designated vice-captain for this ‘fifth Test’ against England, which is going place over a year after it was postponed due to Covid-19 concerns, unlike most of their Test lineups. The fifth Test was delayed because of Kohli, who had guided India to a 2-1 lead.

While Kohli, who is India’s most successful Test skipper, is still a possibility, it is improbable that he would accept the position. After all, he had resigned willingly from his job following a 1-2 loss to South Africa earlier this year.
