IND vs ENG: Have Learnt A Lot From Rohit Sharma, Really Happy He Has Shown Confidence In Me – Suryakumar Yadav

The 31-year-old India National Cricket Team middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav credited India captain Rohit Sharma’s support in his cricketing growth, saying that he is glad to see Rohit showing a lot of confidence in him.

Suryakumar Yadav has established himself as a key member of the India National Cricket Team in the white-ball format. He will be seen in action in the Manchester ODI against England, which is a series decider, on July 17.

Speaking ahead of the match, Suryakumar, who has shared a dressing room with Rohit in the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket, said that he has had a lot of chat about his game with the Indian skipper.

“He’s been watching me and talking about my cricket since I played domestic cricket. Coming into IPL in 2018-19 we used to talk a lot about my game, how I can improve, handle pressure situations and move forward and take the game ahead. 

“We have had a lot of chat about my game and I have literally felt him on the ground whenever he’s leading. I have learnt a lot from him. I’m really happy he has shown a lot of confidence in me,” Suryakumar Yadav said at a press conference ahead of Manchester ODI against England.

The 31-year-old added that during his lean patch with the bat in the IPL 2021, Rohit supported him a lot and he would like to pay back by scoring runs and winning the games under his leadership for Team India.

“I still remember during 2021 IPL second leg, I was not going through a good patch and he was the one who had a lot of chat with me (and supported me). The way things are going, I would like to pay back that confidence by scoring runs and winning the game for the team,” said Suryakumar.

Star middle-order batsman further said that Rohit was batting at the other end when he made his debut for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Suryakumar also said that although the players like personal milestones, keeping the team ahead of themselves will always help in getting better and performing well.

“When I started domestic cricket, when I made my debut for Mumbai, it was him (Rohit) who was batting at the other end. He always tries to think about what I can add to my game. We speak a lot about cricket, which areas I can improve, how long I can bat and help the team. Everyone likes personal milestones but at the same time if you keep the team ahead of you, your performances will always be good,” added Suryakumar.
