Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes Ruturaj Gaikwad’s future with the Indian T20I team in the upcoming series against England is uncertain.

While Rohit Sharma will come back to lead the team in the first T20I, a few regulars will come back beginning with the second game.

The Indian squad will turn its concentration to white-ball cricket when the Rohit Sharma-led team faces Jos Buttler and company in three T20Is, followed by as many ODIs, after a painful loss to England in the rescheduled fifth Test. With only a single addition in the form of captain Rohit, the Men in Blue will play with the team from the Ireland series in the opening game due to the short break between games.

With Rohit joining the team, India’s batting order may shift, and it is possible that Ruturaj Gaikwad would lose his spot. Due to calf discomfort, Gaikwad missed the second Twenty20 International against Ireland and did not bat in the opening match either. Gaikwad scored 96 runs in the five games he played against South Africa, with just one fifty-plus score in the third game at Vizag.

‘Ruturaj won’t get another opportunity: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra, a former India opening batsman, shared the same opinion when he stated that Gaikwad will not get a chance to play in the first game and will not be included in the team for the series’ final two games.

Aakash Chopra used the Koo app to check out the identity of the second opener. Sanju Samson gave a fantastic debut with a 42-ball 77 against Ireland as the opener in the second T20I, but Ishan Kishan is probably going to partner with Rohit at the top. However, the Men in Blue would prefer to stick with the starting lineup given that Samson will not be playing for the team in the following two games.

“Rohit has come back for the T20i. Who is going out now? Ruturaj will not be given another chance, but will Sanju keep his spot? So, how about Hooda? Many questions will be answered tomorrow when India takes on England’s Jos Buttler. I can not wait “Aakash Chopra stated.

On Thursday, July 7, India and England will play the first of three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches at Southampton’s Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
