Former India captain RP Singh expressed his displeasure with Rohit Sharma’s strategy, recalling Virat Kohli’s captaincy decision.

In the second One-Day International of the series against England, Team India suffered a devastating loss. India failed to reach its 247-run goal at Lord’s and was dismissed for just 146 runs as the hosts tied the series 1-1 with the decisive game on Sunday in Manchester.

India’s batting order in the second game caught some people’s attention because, remarkably, they did not lose a wicket when chasing down a 111-run goal in the first One-Day International at the Oval.
After the team lost the early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant was sent at number four in the run chase, while the in-form Suryakumar Yadav came in at number five.

Pant went out for a five-ball duck, and Suryakumar was sent to the pavilion on 27, having failed to score. Virat Kohli, who missed the first ODI due to a  groin ailment, made his game debut. However, his poor luck continued as he nicked an outside-off delivery for a straightforward catch for Jos Buttler. He left on the 16th.

‘Virat Kohli did a lot of shuffling with his batting position’: RP Singh

After the team lost the early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant was selected to bat at number four in the run chase, while Suryakumar Yadav came in at number five. Former Indian cricketer Rudra Pratap Singh disagreed with the choice, arguing that Suryakumar should go up to the position of 4.

“I do not concur with this. Suryakumar Yadav ought to start from position four. Because Virat Kohli repeatedly changed his batting position in the past. In the team, Kohli built his name while batting at No. 3, although, on occasion, he used other players there—KL Rahul, for instance,” RP Singh remarked in a Cricbuzz chat.
