England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali has endorsed the team’s newly adopted aggressive strategy in Test cricket Under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendan McCullum. The 35-year-old acknowledged that the idea could occasionally backfire but emphasized that England was previously playing terrible cricket in Test matches.
With just one victory in 17 Test matches under the former captain Joe Root, England had a terrible stretch. But in Stokes’ first Test as captain, the English team thrashed New Zealand 3-0 at home.
England’s positive attitude was evident throughout the three-Test matches against New Zealand. Moeen told Sports Today in an interview about his thoughts on the team’s aggressive ideology:
“It was occasionally extremely embarrassing the way we were playing. We were not playing well at all. I recognize that this style of cricket is now a bit severe, but its main purpose is to give players the courage to express themselves.”
“I know someone who was caught by Ben Stokes in the first innings of the most recent Test at mid-off. But I believe he is modeling for the team that playing shots is OK. England needs some of it. Although there would be bad days, there were not many good ones.”
Moeen Ali on India’s playing XI for rescheduled Test:
The starting lineup for the rescheduled Test is another topic of intense discussion inside the Indian team, in addition to the captaincy. Moeen advises the visitors to use both of their spinners because Edgbaston will provide sufficient support. He declared:
“Two spinners and three seamers, if I were India.” More so due to the circumstances than anything else, Shami, Bumrah, Siraj, and the two spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. In the early innings, it may not take many spins, but later on, it will take a spin without a doubt.”
India’s fifth Test match against England will take place at Edgbaston on Friday, July 1.
