Michael Vaughan, a former England skipper, was pleased by India’s resounding victory over England in the opening ODI on Tuesday at The Oval (July 12). With the help of Jasprit Bumrah’s amazing six-wicket haul, the hosts were knocked out for just 110.

At the top of the lineup in response, skipper Rohit Sharma was extremely brutal. He continued to bat unabated at 76, and Shikhar Dhawan added 31 as the visitors cruised to their first-ever ODI victory over England by a margin of 10 wickets.

When England was given the opportunity to bat first, they could only produce 110 runs because to the batting collapse caused by pacers Jasprit Bumrah (6/19) and Mohammed Shami (3/31). Only David Willey (21) and Jos Buttler (30) were able to make significant contributions.

The opening pair of Rohit Sharma (76*) and Shikhar Dhawan (31*) never gave the English team a chance to remove them from the crease and guided India to the finish line with more than 32 overs to spare by ten wickets. The 111-run chase was a piece of cake for India.

‘India should be one of the favourites to win the T20 World cup’: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan believes that the Men in Blue’s previous model of low-risk cricket was the primary cause of their extended ICC Trophy drought.

Michael Vaughan outlined to Cricbuzz why India needs to be the favourites in every ICC competition they take part in, including the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

“When things are going your way, you need to blow teams away. For far too long, the Indian one-day team has underperformed. They have not been close to winning anything in a long time. They should be pushing in all conditions and should be one of the favourites to win the T20 World Cup in Australia.”

The second One-Day International (ODI) between the two teams will be played on Thursday at Lord’s (July 14).
