India ODI Squad For England Tour (Predicted)

India begins their tour to England in July with an eye on the T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup preparations. They start the tour by playing the postponed Test from July 1-5. This is followed by a T20I series between July 7 to 10. The ODI series then follows between July 12 to 17.

The ODI series will be played after the T20I series and will require a different game plan from the Indian players. The Indian players need to adjust quickly to the different formats of the game. This ODI series is a part of the ICC World Cup Super League.

The BCCI has already announced a 17-member Indian squad for the one-off  Test series against England. A few of the players will be added to the ODI squad that will be announced in due course. In this article, we predict India’s likely 15-member squad that can be announced for the three-match ODI series against England.

India ODI Squad For England Tour (Predicted)

Batsmen: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant (WK)

There is enough depth and variation in the above-mentioned names. There are enough options at the top and the middle order. The likes of Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav are the kind of batsmen who can anchor the innings in the 50-over format. Virat Kohli can bat at his usual number three position and join in anchoring the innings too. Pant and Samson can play the finisher’s role batting at number five and six.

All-Rounders: Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya

Hardik and Jadeja would retain their places as all-rounders even in the Indian ODI squad. Hardik is fresh from a successful IPL season and has returned fit as well. Jadeja will be fit in time for the England series. Since both these players are crucial to India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup, both of them should be given enough games to get themselves prepared.

Bowlers- Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav

Malik should be picked for India’s T20I and ODI squads given the seaming friendly conditions that will be on offer in England. Bumrah and Shami are usual suspects. Given that India has enough depth in their pace attack, they can select bowlers like Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj and can give them a go in the format.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar can be rested for the series as part of India’s rotational policy. Chahal and Kuldeep should be India’s spin options. While Chahal is almost a guaranteed selection, Kuldeep Missed out on the South Africa series with an injury and should be given his chance against England. He has bowled well in England previously.
