India vs England, IND Playing XI vs ENG, India Tour Of England 2022, 2nd T20I. India will take on England in the second T20I at the Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham on Saturday (July 9). The visitors do not have a great record at Edgbaston whether it is Test or T20I with a no-win record at this venue haunting them.

England has played 3 T20I matches at Edgbaston for an all-win record. The two teams have faced each other in T20Is once at this venue, and England emerged a 3-run winner in 2014.

Hardik Pandya put in all-around performance as India defeated England by 50 runs in the first T20I at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Chasing a target of 199, England was bowled out for 148 in 19.3 overs. Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers, having bagged four wickets.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya hit his maiden T20I fifty as India scored a total of 198 for eight. Hardik Pandya scored a 51 after Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda had played knocks of 39 and 33. For England, Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers with his spell of two for 23.

1st T20I:- India 198 for 8 (Hardik 51, Suryakumar 39, Hooda 33) beat England 148 (Moeen 36, Hardik 4-33) by 50 runs

Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravindra Jadeja will be back for India after being rested for the first T20I. Virat Kohli will probably have to open the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma as there doesn’t seem to be another spot in the side if India chooses to play keeper Dinesh Karthik.

Of course, the team can bench Dinesh Karthik and allow either Ishan Kishan or Deepak Hooda to open the batting with Rohit Sharma and then slot in ex-Indian skipper Virat Kohli at number 3 and Suryakumar Yadav at number 4.

Rishabh Pant will also be back in the playing XI and will don the gloves as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper. Spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will take the place of Axar Patel and will provide more with the bat in hand.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to replace Arshdeep Singh who made his debut in the series opener and bowled economically, also picking up a couple of cheap wickets at the end. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is looking in sensational bowling rhythm and has the ball on a string at the moment. He will be complemented by Harshal Patel who probably has the best slower ball in the business at the moment.

For the first T20I match, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravindra Jadeja were not included as they were playing the rescheduled 5th Test match against England. As the senior players were rested for the opening T20I, the likes of Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Arshdeep Singh, and Venkatesh Iyer were available for only the first T20I match.

Rohit Sharma

India’s regular all-format skipper Rohit Sharma is already out of isolation (after missing the 5th Test due to Covid-19) and started his preparation for the white-ball series. He started his England tour with the first T20I where he scored 24 runs off 14 balls and will hope to get much-needed runs under his belt after a horrific IPL 2022 stint.

In the absence of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma will get the company of his Mumbai Indians teammate Ishan Kishan at the top order as the pair is expected to start the proceedings for team India. He is the leading T20I run-scorer having amassed 3337 runs in 126 T20Is averaging 32.09.

After five months, Virat Kohli will return to India’s T20 team for the 2nd T20 against England at Edgbaston. During this period, he has missed 10 T20Is but he is under scrutiny more than ever. If BCCI sources are to be believed, his place in the T20I team is at stake with the 2022 T20I World Cup just three months away. The ex-Indian skipper may open in place of Ishan Kishan who scored only 8 runs in the 1st T20I. Virat Kohli is the third-highest scorer in T20Is after Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill with 3296 runs averaging 51.5 in 97 T20Is.

For India, although he has scored two half-centuries in his last five innings, it is his strike rate that is of big concern. Virat Kohli has managed a strike rate of just 112.29 in those games. After skipping Sri Lanka and South Africa series at home, Virat Kohli will have to capitalize on the two matches in England as he is likely to rest in the five-match T20 series against West Indies. That will give him a maximum of 9 T20I matches to get his form back and prepare himself for T20I World Cup in October.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav might bat at the no.3 spot in the 1st T20I against England. The right-handed batter is back on the field after a long time after missing South Africa T20I series. He was part of IPL 2022 but was ruled out due to an injury midway.

Suryakumar Yadav gave a good performance in IPL 2022, hitting 303 runs in just 8 games at an average of 43.29 with 3 half-centuries. He was out lbw for a first-ball duck to Craig Young in the 1st T20I against Ireland and scored 15 off 5 in the 2nd T20I against Ireland. He scored 39 runs off 19 balls in the 1st T20I against England.

He scored an unbeaten 5 off 4 balls in the 1st T20I against Ireland but was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the 2nd T20I. He scored 11 off 7 in the 1st T20I against England. He may be rested for the 2nd T20I against England, with Rishabh Pant taking his place.

Deepak Hooda

For a stellar IPL 2022 season in which he scored 451 runs for new entrant Lucknow Super Giants, Deepak Hooda received high appreciation from the cricket fraternity. He contributed significantly to Lucknow’s run to the playoffs by scoring four half-centuries in 15 games. Deepak Hooda has played 2 ODIs and 6 T20Is averaging 55 and 68.33 respectively in the aforementioned formats respectively. He has also picked a solitary ODI scalp.

Deepak Hooda was promoted as an opener in the 1st T20I against Ireland and he scored an unbeaten 47 off 29 balls including 6 fours and 2 sixes. In the 2nd T20I, he scored a ton (104 off 57 with 9 fours and 6 sixes) and was also awarded The Player of the Series. Deepak Hooda scored 33 off 17 in the 1st T20I against England.

The right-arm pacer picked 6 wickets in 4 innings. His X-factor was his economy rate, as he conceded runs at an economy of just 6.07.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up the wicket of Andrew Balbrine and returned with match figures of 1/16 in 3 overs in the rain truncated 1st T20I. He picked 1/46 in the high-scoring 2nd T20I against Ireland, which India won by 4 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 1/10 in 3 overs at an exemplary economy rate of 3.3 in 1st T20I against England.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal will be the sole pure spinner for the Indian team against England in the 2nd T20I. The right-arm leg spinner gave a brilliant performance in the previous series against Proteas, picking 6 wickets in 5 games at an average of 19.33. He is India’s leading T20I wicket-taker with 77 scalps in 61 T20Is averaging 24.44.

He was awarded the Man of the Match for returning with figures of 1/11 in 3 overs in the 1st T20I against Ireland. He picked up the scalp of Lorcan Tucker in the 1st T20I but didn’t play the 2nd T20I against Ireland making way for Ravi Bishnoi. He picked 2/32 in the 1st T20I against England.
