Indian opener Mayank Agarwal will stay back in India for the time being. He has been kept on standby for the one-off Test against England that will take place in July.

The Karnataka batter was reportedly added to the squad after fellow state player, KL Rahul, sustained an injury and has been on the road to recovery since.

Mayank will remain on standby. Given it’s a one-off Test, the team management doesn’t see the requirement of adding a player and then sending him home. But if there is an injury, he will be sent to England,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSport.in.

Mayank will continue to practice in Bangalore. Should the team need him as injury cover, he will be sent to England. For now, he is not travelling with the team. Had we played more than one Test, Mayank would have travelled with the squad,” the official added.

Meanwhile, following the conclusion of the 5-match T20I series against South Africa, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Rahul Dravid have left early Monday morning for London ahead of the Test match.
