Former Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha has confessed that Rohit Sharma’s and former captain MS Dhoni’s leadership styles are similar. Ojha said that both Rohit and Dhoni are known for fully supporting bowlers, giving them the confidence to play.

On Sunday (July 17), Rohit followed in the footsteps of Dhoni by winning a bilateral ODI series in England. During the 2014 trip, Dhoni guided India to victory. The Men in Blue won both the T20I and ODI series after winning the third ODI in Manchester.

Bowler’s Destiny In The Hands Of Their Captain: Pragyan Ojha

Following India’s series victory over England, Ojha was asked if he saw any parallels between Dhoni and Rohit’s captaincy. During a Cricbuzz conversation, he admitted:

“There is some similarity in the leadership styles of Dhoni and Rohit. A bowler does well if he gets the confidence from the captain. If the captain doesn’t back the bowler, he sometimes looks lost out in the middle. Kuldeep (Yadav) and (Yuzvendra) Chahal have often said that Rohit gives them the cushion and confidence. Hardik (Pandya) also credited Rohit for backing him and giving him a sense of confidence. This is a similarity between all successful leaders.”

“Batters write his own destiny. But when it comes to bowlers, their destiny is in the captain’s hands. When a senior player or captain backs you on the ground, you get a lot of confidence.”

Ojha played together with Rohit Sharma in the IPL at Deccan Chargers and was also part of Mumbai Indians when Rohit was captain, so he surely may know a thing or two about Rohit’s captaincy having played under MS Dhoni for most of his international career.
