Salman Butt, a former Pakistani opener, feels that Team India skipper Rohit Sharma shouldn’t be held accountable for his batting struggles during the recently finished T20 World Cup 2022.

Butt, on the other hand, believed that the Indian captain needed to improve his physical condition. He asserted that if Sharma improves his fitness, he will be able to contribute more to the team’s success.

Rohit Sharma Looks Slow And Lethargic On The Field: Salman Butt

He discussed this in a video on his YouTube channel:

“Rohit Sharma is a world-class player. It’s just that he wasn’t on song at the T20 World Cup. He also didn’t look very fit and looked slow and lethargic on the field. But he is a top player.”

Butt continued:

“It does not mean that he is not capable. Despite not being supremely fit, he has played some exceptional knocks in the past. Fitter Rohit Sharma would benefit India a lot more.”

While the Indian team advanced to the championship event’s semifinals, Sharma received criticism from many for his lackluster batting performances. The right-handed batter’s strike rate was 106.42 and he produced 116 runs in six at-bats.

Salman Butt Shares His Views On Prospect Of Suryakumar Yadav Playing As An Opener In T20Is

Butt emphasized how the dynamic batter is capable of scoring runs at a frenzied speed even when there are no field limits in response to a fan’s inquiry regarding Suryakumar Kumar Yadav opening the innings in T20 cricket.

The 38-year-old claimed that after just one unsuccessful season, India shouldn’t replace the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. He added:

“The way he bats in the middle order, it seems as if the powerplay is still on. But it all depends on how the team management wants to utilise him. A bad outing doesn’t mean that the Indian openers are not good enough.”

Notably, during India’s five-match T20I series against the West Indies, Suryakumar was elevated to the starting position in place of KL Rahul. The swashbuckler finished the series as the player with the most runs (135 runs in four appearances).
