Harbhajan Singh believes that Ashish Nehra should be a part of India’s T20 coaching staff because he is arguably more familiar with the shortest format than Rahul Dravid, who is now in charge.

Nehra retired from the sport in 2017 and led Gujarat Titans to their first IPL win earlier this year.

“In the T20 format, you can have someone like Ashish Nehra, who recently retired from cricket.” With all due respect to Rahul, we have played together for so many years, and he has great expertise, but this is a hard format” Harbhajan Singh said.

“Someone who has recently played the game is better equipped for the T20 coaching role.” I’m not suggesting you kick Rahul out of the T20. “Ashish and Rahul can collaborate to build this team for the World Cup in 2024,” Harbhajan told PTI.

“The approach has to change in the T20 format”: Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh believes that the Indian team’s mentality must evolve regardless of whether the current top three — Rohit Sharma, K L Rahul, and Virat Kohli — extend their careers until the 2024 World Cup.

“In the T20 format, the approach must change.” The first six overs are crucial. If that doesn’t happen, you’ll have to rely on Hardik or Surya to score 50 off 20 balls. If they don’t fire, your total will be below par” Harbhajan Singh said.

“England modified their strategy and won two World Cups.” “T20 must be played as T20, not like ODIs,”  Harbhajan Singh remarked.

“All the top three (Rohit, Virat, and KL) need to do is enhance their strike rate.” It’s difficult to make 180 when you’re batting at 110 or 120 strikes. They must score at least 9 runs per over in the first 10-12 overs.” Does he envision Kohli and Rohit continuing to play the shortest format? “

“I am not the one to say whether they want to play or not.” They are terrific players, so if they can stay fit, why not? Players cannot be changed overnight; the approach must change” Harbhajan added that Hardik Pandya should captain India in the T20s after Rohit Sharma.

Hardik Pandya captained India in the T20I series which India won 1-0.
