Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has experienced highs and lows this year. After giving up the Test captaincy earlier in the year, he had a quiet IPL 2022 and a poor tour of England across all three formats. The batsman struggled with his form for most of the year and even took a break from the game after the tour of England in July.
The Asia Cup 2022 was a turning point for Virat Kohli, who returned to the game after a long break. He missed India’s bilateral series before the Asia Cup and took some time off the field. After returning from the game, he looked in great shape for the Asia Cup 2022, and he went on to score his maiden T20I century in India’s final game of the tournament, which was also his 71st international century.
Virat Kohli Is A Phenomenal Player – Steve Smith
Australia batsman Steve Smith hailed Kohli, calling him a “phenomenal player.” Former Australian captain and middle-order batsman Steve Smith has termed Virat as the best cricketer in the world right now.
“He (Virat Kohli) is a world class player in all three formats of the game. He has struck a lot of runs and he is a phenomenal player,” said Steve Smith.
India’s star batter, Virat Kohli showcased his vintage form in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The right-handed batter is the highest run-scorer in the multinational tournament with 296 runs at an average of 98.67 and a strike rate of 136.41, including four half-centuries in six matches.
Virat Kohli kicked off his T20 World Cup 2022 campaign with a match-winning 82-run knock against Pakistan, anchoring his side to a heart-thumping four-wicket victory. Scores of 64 against Bangladesh, 62 against the Netherlands, and 50 against England in the semi-finals ended his run in the competition as one of the best white-ball batsmen of the modern era.
