The 45-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has opined that the senior right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar might not be in India’s scheme of things for the next T20 World Cup but currently, he is a part of the team and will feature in the playing XI in the third T20I against New Zealand National Cricket Team.

The third and final T20I between New Zealand National Cricket Team and India National Cricket Team, which will be their last game in the format this year, is set to be held at McLean Park in Napier on Tuesday, November 22.

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Chopra said that Bhuvneshwar performed well in the second T20I against New Zealand and he will retain his place in the team for the final T20I. He said:

“Bhuvi will play because of the stage of his career he is in. He bowled well in the last match and the World Cup was also good. If you see that the next World Cup is after two years, he might not be in your scheme of things, but he is a part of this team now. So I don’t think anyone is going to touch him, he is going to be with this team as of now.”

The next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be the 9th edition of the tournament, will be held in 2024 in the West Indies and the United States.

Also, the former India opener believes that Harshal Patel will only get a game if the team management decides to rest Arshdeep Singh. Chopra said:

“I still don’t see Harshal Patel playing, unfortunately, unless the team thinks that they don’t want to play Arshdeep. If Harshal plays, it will be for Arshdeep.”

Aakash Chopra further said that he feels both Umran Malik and Kuldeep Yadav will not be included in the playing XI for the final T20I. He stated:

“Mohammed Siraj will still play, Umran Malik will not play now also, Kuldeep Yadav will not play now also, that is what I feel. They got Deepak Hooda to bowl, which is a good thing.”

He also named Devon Conway, Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips as threats for India in the batting department. He said:

“For New Zealand, Devon Conway is very important if they are batting first. I am expecting Finn Allen to fire at some stage and when he fires, he will trouble India. The focus will be on Glenn Phillips. Bowling is this team’s strength, it will be the case here also.”
