Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson’s performance in the first ODI between India and New Zealand on Friday, November 25, in Saba Karim’s opinion, lacked sufficient bravery. When chasing down 306 with 17 balls remaining, the Kiwis triumphed by seven wickets.

Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson, according to Karim, both faced additional pressure to maintain their respective spots in the starting XI. He underlined how crucial it is to create a sense of security for children so that they can play without being concerned about losing their seats.

Sanju Samson And Shreyas Iyer Are Looking To Cement Their Place In The Side: Saba Karim

During a conversation on India News Sports, Karim made these comments.

“Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer are looking to cement their places in the side, which is why they were unable to play fearless cricket,” he said. “The players these days are very insecure about their places.”

“They should be given that confidence,” Karim added. “We will see a difference in their approach once they don’t have that fear. When you are playing to save your place, you aren’t trying to win games for your side as you are somewhat playing selfish cricket.”

Iyer stood out as one of the Men in Blue’s top batsmen during the game, which is noteworthy. The right-handed batsman needed 76 balls to score 80 runs. In contrast, Samson managed 38 runs from 38 balls. For the fifth wicket, the two added 94 runs in partnership.

Quality Of Cricket Suffering Due To Scheduling: Saba Karim

Karim continued by saying that sufficient time must elapse between trips to allow for enough preparation time for the players.

The team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh shortly after the current ODI series in New Zealand ends, the former India selector noted. He asserted that the quality of cricket has been significantly impacted by such schedules.

“The overlapping between two series should come to an end,” Karim said.

“As soon as the ODI series in New Zealand comes to an end, we will be playing in Bangladesh. How can you expect a player to play in New Zealand, come back home for a day or two, and then go to Bangladesh for another series? The quality of cricket has suffered due to such scheduling.”

The Shikhar Dhawan-led team will travel to Hamilton for the second match on Sunday, November 27, following the seven-wicket loss in the first ODI of the series against the Blackcaps. For India to remain in the three-match series, they will need to win that game.
