India take on New Zealand in a three-match ODI series after winning the T20I series 1-0. India vs New Zealand 1st ODI takes place on November 25 (Friday) at Eden Park in Auckland. The 2nd ODI will be played on November 27 (Sunday) at Seddon Park (Hamilton) while the 3rd ODI will be played on November 30 (Wednesday) at Hagley Oval (Christchurch).

Shikhar Dhawan is leading this Indian side in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. He along with Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested from the series. Jadeja has not yet recovered from the knee surgery he underwent during the Asia Cup 2022. he subsequently missed the T20 World Cup as well.

As per the ODI head-to-head is concerned both teams have played 110 games against each other with India winning 55 and the Kiwis 49. A win in the first ODI will be their 50th against the Men In Blue. Gill has scored 530 runs in ODI cricket this year in nine games including a century and three fifties. He was named in the ODI and T20I squads. He was not included in any of the T20Is but is likely to play in the first ODI.

Shikhar Dhawan (C)

Dhawan will open alongside Gill. Both opened previously in the series against Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Indian skipper has scored the most runs for India since 2020. In 16 ODIs in 2022, he scored 567 runs with five fifties.

Sanju Samson

Samson should be selected ahead of Shreyas Iyer in the first ODI. Iyer did not score too many runs in the T20I series as his problems against the short ball were exposed. Samson now deserves a longer run in ODIS as well as T20Is. In nine matches this year, Sanju has scored 248 runs at an average of 82.67.

Suryakumar Yadav

SKY slots in at four. He has had a dream run in T20I cricket this year scoring over 1000 runs and scoring nine fifties and two centuries. In ODIs this year, he has scored 216 runs from 10 games averaging 27.00.

Rishabh Pant (WK)

Pant opened the batting in the two T20Is that were played. In the final T20I, he was dismissed for 11 runs off 5 balls. He faced a lot of flak as well for the opportunities he did not take in the series. He is likely to be part of the playing XI as well.

Washington Sundar / Deepak Hooda

One among Hooda or Washington Sundar can play at number six as the specialist all-rounder. Sundar gives them an option of a specialist spinner. Both of them have not played too much cricket this year in national colors.

Shardul Thakur

Shardul also has potential all-round skills in ODIs. He was a part of the ODI squads against Zimbabwe and South Africa. This year he has played 12 ODIs picking up 17 wickets.

Deepak Chahar

Chahar will be the second seamer in the playing XI. He was not considered for the T20Is but is back for the ODIs. The conditions in New Zealand will aid his style of swing bowling. He has played just four matches this year taking nine wickets averaging 21.78 and economy of less than 6.

Arshdeep Singh

The left-arm pacer has been a real find for India this year. He has been the go-to bowler in the team in T20Is this year. He took 33 wickets in 21 matches this year. He should make his ODI debut against New Zealand in the first ODI.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal will be the specialist spinner in India’s playing XI. He was overlooked for the T20 World Cup. He took 21 wickets in 11 ODIs this year. Overall in 67 ODIs, the leggie has picked up 118 wickets.

Umran Malik

Malik made his T20I debut earlier this year. He is the fastest pacer in Indian cricket at the moment. He was benched for the three T20Is. Many expect him to get his maiden cap in Auckland. He was retained by SRH earlier this month during the retention window.
