India will be heading to South Africa after the ongoing test series against New Zealand for a full bilateral series that starts with a three-match test series. South Africa is a far better side now and they have one of the best bowling combinations which were evident in the recent T20 World cup 2021.

India on the other hand, has been dominating in the longer format everywhere they have been travelling and their next aim will be to win the series in South Africa. The tour is expected to be very competitive and can be very decisive in deciding the careers of certain players. Here are 5 Indian players for whom this could be the last test series.

IND vs SA 2021: 5 Indian Players For Whom This Could Be The Last Test Series

Mayank Agarwal:

Mayank Agarwal will be one of the names that are not yet a certainty for South Africa but he will be under pressure if gets a place in the squad. He may not be the first choice opener, but could well get his opportunity and might lose his spot in the Indian team if he fails to use his chance.

Mayank has shown vulnerability with the new ball and might fight it hard in the swinging conditions. With Shubman Gill also in the mix, India might not prefer to have two backup openers and this might be the last chance for Agarwal to keep his place in the side.

Cheteshwar Pujara:

Cheteshwar Pujara hasn’t scored a century for the last two to three years and it has mounted the pressure on him. The experienced batter hasn’t had many big scores under his belt of late and he did show some intent in the last test in the tour to England.

However, he has scored just 26 and 22 in the first test against New Zealand and his strengths in home conditions have started to fade off. India will be looking for the next number three as well and it is time to pull up his socks for Pujara in the series against South Africa.

Wriddhiman Saha:

Wriddhiman Saha had a good knock in the second innings against New Zealand and it will be enough for him to hold his place for the South Africa series. The right-hander, however, has been associated with a lot of injuries and could find it hard to keep his fitness undergoing.

Saha is 37 years old at the moment and might not have much cricket left in him. KS Bharat is being groomed as the backup wicketkeeper option for Rishabh Pant and Saha might well be approaching his last tour in international cricket.

Hanuma Vihari:

Hanuma Vihari did not feature in the home tests against New Zealand and Shreyas Iyer got a chance ahead of him in the first test. Vihari hasn’t had consistent opportunities for India in the past and has been a backup middle order option in the overseas tests.

It was a big surprise when Vihari missed out on the Indian squad and he will feel the pressure with Shreyas Iyer making a big impact. If he does make it to the South Africa series, he will have to make it count or could be losing his Indian position.

Ajinkya Rahane:

Ajinkya Rahane is almost edging out in terms of getting axed from the Indian team and it won’t be a bad thing if he does get dropped from the Indian Test side. He needs to re-assess his game plans as he has been getting dismissed far too many times cheaply.

His inconsistent run of the show has been a big headache for India but he still is a valuable player and has played a lot of high-class knocks. The South Africa tour could well end his career with the Indian test team if he again fails to get runs.
