After victory in the opening ODI, South Africa will lock horns with India in the 2nd ODI. The IND vs SA 2nd ODI of India’s tour of South Africa 2021-22 will take place on January 21 (Friday). The venue of the encounter is Boland Park Stadium in Paarl.

South Africa crushed India in IND vs SA 1st ODI by 31 runs. The match at Bolard Park saw South Africa opting to bat first after winning the toss. South Africa lost openers Janneman Malan (6) and Quinton de Kock (27) quickly. Later, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen slammed centuries to establish a good total on the board.

Bavuma slammed 110 while Rassie hit 129 to set up a 204-run stand for the 4th wicket. In the end, South Africa reached a respectable total on the scoreboard, piling up 296-4 in 50 overs. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah picked 2 wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin managed to get 1. However, rest of the bowlers ended wicketless.

For India, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings. India’s batting started well until reaching 49 on the board when KL Rahul (12) became a victim of Aiden Markram. Later, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a 92-run stand. With Dhawan’s 79 and Virat Kohli’s 51, India managed to take hold of the chase.

However, after both of them got out, the rest of the players could not stay on the crease for long. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer got out for 16 and 17 respectively while Venkatesh Iyer got out for 7. Reaching 188-6 in 35.5 overs, India almost lost the plot during the chase.

In the end, Shardul Thakur hit an unbeaten half-century, reaching his fifty on the final ball. Reaching 265-8 in 50 overs, India lost the match by 31 runs. For South Africa, Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Lungi Ngidi picked 2 wickets each while Keshav Maharaj and Aiden Markram got 1 wicket each.
