Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar believes that the front foot defence of the Indian batters in the South Africa tour will be very critical for the first 25 overs.

The India tour of South Africa is scheduled to begin from December 26 and India will play three Tests and three ODIs in the tour. Also, all the matches will be played without spectators behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 situation in the country.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar speaking to Boria Majumdar on ‘Backstage with Boria’, said: “that the front foot defence is important”.

I’ve always said, front foot defence is important. Upfront, front foot defence is important. And that front foot defence is going to count here. The first 25 overs, front foot defence is going to be critical,” Tendulkar said.

Tendulkar pointed out that the front foot defence of the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul was solid in the India tour of England which helped India get the lead of 2-1 in the series.

And that is what we got to see in England when Rahul got those runs and so did Rohit. Their front foot defence was solid,” the 48-year-old stated.

When Your Hands Start Going Away From Your Body, That Is When You Start Losing Control – Sachin Tendulkar

The highest run-getter in the history of cricket Sachin Tendulkar said that the players start to lose control when their hands start going away from the body.

The hands were not going away from the body. When your hands start going away from your body, that is when you start losing control slowly, but surely. And the beauty was their hands were not going away,” he added.

Tendulkar highlighted that Rohit and Rahul got beaten on occasion playing the shots with hands close to the body which he feel is fine. He added that the chances of edging the ball increases when playing away from the body.

They got beaten on occasion and that’s fine, you know? Every batter gets beaten. Bowlers are there to pick wickets, so that’s okay. But when your hands start going away from your body, that is when you are likely to edge the ball.”

Sachin Tendulkar further added that the main reason behind Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul continuing to bat in the English conditions was the front foot defence and the Indian batters will have to follow that to succeed in the South African conditions.

The reason for them continuing to bat was because their hands were close to their body. And that was the major difference between the earlier partnerships which were unsuccessful and the last tour of England where the openers really did a fabulous job,” he stated.
