IND vs SA: We Can See India Winning The Test Series 3-0, Says Sarandeep Singh

Former Indian national selector Sarandeep Singh is confident of the Virat Kohli-led Indian team will blank South Africa 3-0 in the three-match Test series.

India registered a clinical victory by 113 runs on the final day of the first Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Despite South Africa skipper Dean Elgar’s stoic defence in the first session that gave the hosts a glimpse of hope that the game might turn in their favour. However, a buoyant Jasprit Bumrah got India the much-needed breakthrough as he trapped Elgar before the stumps for LBW.

Bumrah was supported by his long-time pace partner Mohammed Shami, who bagged the wickets of Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen to end with figures of 3/63.

Quinton de Kock showed some great intent with the bat as he drove Bumrah for a couple of boundaries straight down the ground. De Kock was knocked off by Mohammed Siraj before lunch.

Temba Bavuma, who was involved in a 136-run stand with his captain Elgar in the morning, was running short of partners on another end as Ravichandran Ashwin picked the last two wickets to give India a 1-0 lead.

Sarandeep Singh predicts India to win 3-0

Sarandeep believes that India will win the series with a 3-0 whitewash against the Proteas.

“Yes, we can see this Indian team winning the Test series 3-0 because South Africa’s batting is not looking that great. Only Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock can chip in but if all the pressure is on these three then the team can’t win because Indian bowling is very strong,” Sarandeep told a news agency ANI.

“It is due to rain that the match got over on the fifth day otherwise you will see matches getting over in 3 or 4 days,” he added.

This was the first time an Asian side managed to register a win in Centurion, where South Africa had lost just two games before their 113 runs defeat to India in the first match. With the win, India has set the tone to win their first Test series in South Africa.

Sarandeep credited the old team management members Ravi Shastri and Bharat Arun with also mentioning Rahul Dravid for team India’s latest success.

“Yes, it is big news. I think this is the first Asian team to win in Centurion. A big congratulations to Rahul Dravid on his first win as coach in SA. It is very difficult to beat SA in their country. It is a huge moment for the Indian cricket team. The way Virat Kohli handled the side and the way our fast bowlers bowled especially Mohammed Shami,” Sarandeep said.

“Jasprit Bumrah got an ankle injury but he came back and bowled well and surprise package Mohammed Siraj. We all talk about batters but look at our fast bowlers. It was a combined effort by the Indian team. SA bowlers bowled well but look at our bowlers. Credit goes to Ravi Shastri also and now the team is under Rahul Dravid. Even Bharat Arun deserves credit for fast bowlers. The way he worked with them for 4-5 years,” he added.

India will play against South Africa in the second Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, the match starts on January 3.
