South Africa take on India in the second T20I in Guwahati on Sunday, October 2. The visitors lost the first T20I and now will have to win the second to keep the series alive. Both teams are also placed in the same group in the T20 World Cup 2022 and thus this series is key for both teams.

South Africa scored just 106 with the bat in the first T20I. They would have to believe that this was a one-off and look forward to getting things right in the second game.  They have a very good record playing T20I cricket in India. In the first series in 2015, they won the series 2-0 after winning in Dharamsala and Cuttack. The final T20I in Kolkata was abandoned due to rain.

The second T20 series took place in September 2018. The series ended 1-1 after the first game was called off without a ball being bowled. India won the second T20I in Mohali while South Africa won the third to finish the series 1-1.

South Africa and India last locked horns in a T20I series in June 2022. During the away tour, South Africa played 5 T20I games against the home team India. The series ended in a 2-2 tie. South Africa won the 1st T20I by 7 wickets and the 2nd T20I by 4 wickets. India won the 3rd T20I by 48 runs and the 4th T20I by 82 runs. The 5th T20I was washed out due to rain. Thus the Proteas have never lost a series in the T20I format in India since 2018. So far they have won five T20Is in India.

In this article, we look at South Africa’s likely playing XI in the second T20I. They should ideally go with the same playing XI and give the players another chance to perform.
