India head coach Rahul Dravid has revealed that keeping the morale of the group high has not been a difficult job for him because it has been led by skipper Virat Kohli himself.

Virat Kohli-led India beached the Centurion fortress by defeating Dean Elgar-led South Africa by 113 runs to get the lead of 1-0 in the three-match Test series. After the comprehensive victory in the first Test India will be eyeing clinching the three-match series by winning the second Test which will begin at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Monday.

On the eve of the second Test Dravid has lauded skipper Kohli and said that there has been a lot of noise around but Kohli has been “absolutely phenomenal over the last 20 days” and had connected with the group.

“I know there has been a lot of noise around other issues even leading into this particular Test match. But keeping the morale of the group high is not really difficult because it has been led by the skipper himself. Virat has been absolutely phenomenal over the last 20 days that we have been here with the way he has trained and connected with the group,” Dravid told reporters on the eve of the second Test.

Dravid further showered praise on the Indian red-ball skipper Virat Kohli and labelled him as a “phenomenal” and “fantastic” leader. The India head coach also said that Kohli has “helped in creating a good space” in the Indian team.

As a coach sometimes leading into the series, you know there isn’t too much you can do once the game starts but what you are really looking to do is prepare well and get the team into a really good space and Virat has been phenomenal in the way he has led the team. I couldn’t speak more highly about him in the way he practices and also just the way he is connected with the group in the last 2 weeks on and off the field. He has been a fantastic leader and a really good captain and that has helped in creating a good space,” Dravid said.
