India and South Africa lock horns with each other in the second one-day international at Boland Park on Friday. South Africa took the early lead after winning the first ODI by 31 runs on Wednesday.
South Africa won a good toss and opted to bat first on a slow surface. They didn’t get off to a great start, having lost the first three wickets for just 68 runs. Man in form, Janneman Malan got out early for just 6 off 10, thanks to a superb delivery from Jasprit Bumrah.

Later, Markam (4) and Quinton de Kock (27 off 41) also got out to put South Africa in trouble. However, Rassie van der Dussen then joined Temba Bavuma and led a remarkable recovery.
The duo began cautiously before switching gears as the innings went ahead. Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma stitched a record 204-run partnership to guide South Africa to the formidable score of 296 runs in the first innings.
Temba Bavuma played a beautiful knock of 110 off 143 deliveries, while Rassie van der Dussen remained unbeaten on 129 off 96 deliveries. In pursuit of the target, India lost their skipper KL Rahul for just 12 runs in 8.3 overs. However, Shikhar Dhawan, at the other hand, ensured runs kept coming at a great pace.

Playing under pressure, Shikhar Dhawan rose to the occasion and played a valuable 79-run knock of 84 balls. He stitched a 92-run partnership with Virat Kohli for the second wicket. Virat Kohli too looked solid as he went on to score his 63rd fifty.
India had the game under control till the time the duo were at the crease. However, once they got out, the match slipped from India’s hands very quickly. From 138 for 2, India slipped to 188 for 6. Shardul Thakur’s fifty helped India play the entire fifty overs but they still fell 31 runs short of the target.
