India take on South Africa in the third and final Test match at Newlands Cricket Ground in Capetown. The series is currently levelled at 1-1. Whosoever wins the final Test will take the series. India began the series on a positive note with a 113-run win in the first Test.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal set the tone for the match as the duo stitched a 117-run partnership for the opening wicket in the first innings. With the ball, India bundled South Africa out for 197 and 191 in the second and fourth innings respectively. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 8 wickets in the match, including a five-wicket haul.

India, however, couldn’t replicate a similar performance in the second Test. Once again, they batted first, however, they were bundled out for 202. KL Rahul scored a half-century but couldn’t go on to score a century that time around. Ashwin also contributed 46 off 50, but other than that, there wasn’t any significant contribution with the bat.

Despite half-centuries from Keegan Petersen and Bavuma, India did well to bundle South Africa out for 229 runs in the second innings. Shardul Thakur starred with the ball as he picked as many as seven wickets for 61 runs in just 17.5 overs. Indian batsmen were once again guilty of not converting the starts into big scores in their second innings.

Pujara and Rahane both scored half-centuries, while Vihari amassed 40 off 84. As a result, they managed 266 runs on the board, thereby setting a 240-run target for South Africa to win the Test match.

The Indian bowlers couldn’t defend the total down as Dean Elgar and Co. chased down the score with seven wickets in hand. Dean Elgar played an outstanding unbeaten 96-run knock off 188 balls to take his team home.  Rassie Van der Dussen also played a very important 40 off 92 deliveries in the context of the game.

The third Test is set to be played at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. It is pertinent to note that India have never won a Test match in Cape Town, while South Africa have beaten India thrice in 5 Tests played against them. The other two Tests resulted in draws.
