IND vs WI: 3 Senior Indian Players Who Might Be Dropped From India's T20 Squad

The IND vs WI series starts almost immediately after India’s white-ball series against England. The India vs England series ends on July 17 and the India vs West Indies white-ball series starts on July 22 with the first of the three ODIs in Trinidad.

After the ODIs, the series IND vs WI series then moves onto the T20I series comprising five matches. The last two matches will be played at Lauderhill in Florida where India and West Indies last played against each other in 2016.

The BCCI has announced strong squads for the England T20I and ODI series. One expects almost the same squad to be announced for the West Indies series. Meanwhile, head coach of the Indian cricket team Rahul Dravid spoke about the selectors have identified a core group of 15-20 players in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup and the squads will be announced in and around them.

India can field two different squads for T20Is and ODIs as was evident in South Africa and the Ireland series. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul led the side in South Africa, while Hardik Pandya led the side against Ireland. In between Rishabh Pant led India in the T20I series against South Africa at home. Shikhar Dhawan

The southpaw played his last T20I in Sri Lanka where he led a young side with the senior Indian players playing a Test series in England. It has been more than a year and Dhawan still is yet to return to the Indian T20I setup.

With the game demanding young players, there is a growing phenomenon that his T20I days for India are over. He was not named in the Indian T20I squad that was named for the England series and might miss out against West Indies as well.

Mohammed Shami

Shami also is not a part of India’s T20I side regularly. He has played just 17 T20Is for India, the last of which was in the T20 World Cup against Namibia. The veteran Indian pacer was not named in India’s T20I squad against England as well but was included in the ODIs. He continues to be an important member of the Indian Test side. He might find himself out of favour from the West Indies T20I series.

Sanju Samson

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in the Indian squad, Sanju Samson might not make a comeback to the Indian squad any sooner. He scored his highest T20I score against Ireland when he scored a 77 in the second T20I against Ireland.

However, despite that score, he found himself dropped from the squad that was announced for the England T20I and ODI series. His inconsistent performances have played its part in the selectors overlooking him for the series against West Indies.
