Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria said Avesh Khan might lose his spot in India’s T20I side over inconsistency with bowling performance. Avesh has struggled to meet the expectations of his IPL-level dominance on the international stage.

The Indian pacer made his ODI debut against West Indies in the second match at Port of Spain in Trinidad. He conceded 54 runs from 10 overs without any wickets and was benched for the final game. Moving to the T20I series, things are getting tight for the Madhya Pradesh pacer after leaking 31 and 47 runs in the last two games.

Avesh Khan is leaking too many runs: Danish Kaneria

Kaneria opined that once India’s pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah returns to the squad then Avesh will be the one to pave the way for him.

“Avesh Khan is leaking too many runs and the economy rate is just increasing from 10 to 12 to 15.7 runs per over last night, which is too much. I think he is losing his grip and may need to make way for players like Prasidh Krishna, Harshal Patel and even Jasprit Bumrah once he is back. If he plays the final two T20Is, he will need to step up and also perform well in Zimbabwe,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

It was strange that he didn’t bowl more overs: Danish Kaneria on Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda, who replaced Ravindra Jadeja in the third T20I, opened the bowling attack in the game. He bowled a brilliant over giving away just one run from it, but surprisingly, that was also the only over of the game bowled by the Indian all-rounder.

“Deepak Hooda came in place of Jadeja and conceded just one run in the opening over. It was strange that he didn’t bowl more as they could have got more overs out of him,” Kaneria said.

India won the third T20I on the excellence of Suryakumar Yadav’s batting masterclass. The Mumbai player scored a 44-ball 76, including eight fours and four sixes, batting at 172.73. He set the tone for India to chase 165 and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant played a sensible knock of 33 in 26 balls to finish the proceedings with six balls to spare.

India and West Indies will move to Florida to play the last two T20I matches on August 6 and 7 to complete the five-match series.
