Former Indian bowler RP Singh thinks India’s bench players have great scope in the forthcoming ODI series against the West Indies. On their Caribbean tour, the Men in Blue are slated to play three ODIs and five T20Is.

A small team without many senior players was chosen by the Indian selection committee for the ODI series. The squad, led by Shikhar Dhawan, does not have players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, or Jasprit Bumrah.

‘India is heading towards a big tournament’: RP Singh

RP Singh stated on Cricbuzz that Team India is constantly striving to have a replacement for every player in their ideal playing XI:

“This is a great chance for other players because India is gearing up for a big tournament and will put their squad depth to the test. They will try out as many players as possible to have one replacement for each player. “This is good because getting the Indian cap is a source of pride.”

RP Singh stated that a couple of good series performances could give players a realistic chance of making the squad consistently:

“These short series, in which the seniors are either rested or injured, are crucial for players. One outstanding performance or a string of excellent performances can keep you on the team for an extended period.”

The first One-Day International (ODI) between India and the West Indies will take place tomorrow (July 22) at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
