Former Indian spinner Murali Kartik was bemused with Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal coming to bowl late in the second ODI against West Indies.

Nicholas Pooran won the toss and West Indies got off to a flying start with openers Shai Hope (115) and Kyle Mayers (39) imposed their supremacy against Indian pacers.

As the duo were flourishing with their 63-run partnership, Deepak Hooda, who bowls part-time off spin, broke the deadlock for India by dismissing Mayers in the ninth over.

Why do you have to wait for Yuzvendra Chahal: Murali Kartik

Hooda and Axar Patel bowled in tandem for a while before Chahal came into the attack to bowl his first over, India’s 17th over of the innings. Each of three spinners bowled nine overs and took a wicket apiece. West Indies finished at 311 on the back of firing century by Hope.

“I have no issues with Deepak Hooda bowling. It’s just that, who is your best spinner in the side? And why do you have to wait for him (Chahal)?” Karthik said on Fancode.

Half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer (63), Sanju Samson (54) and Axar Patel helped India win by two wickets and seal the series 2-0.

Shreyas and Samson build India’s innings with their 99-run stand before Alzarri Joseph trapped the India No.3 for leg before wicket. After reaching his maiden half-century in the 38th over, Samson was involved in a horrible run out in the very next over.

It was just time before Axar stormed in the slog overs to announce his return in to ODI cricket in this series after five years. The southpaw hit three fours and five sixes, batting at a strike rate of 182.86, to snatch the game from the hands of the hosts with two balls to spare.
