At the Harare Sports Club on Monday, Shubman Gill’s first ODI century helped India defeat Zimbabwe by a score of 289 for 8. (August 22).

As the highest individual ODI score by an Indian in Zimbabwe, Gill’s 97-ball 130 included 15 fours and a six.

He also collaborated with Ishan Kishan (50) on a 140-run third-wicket stand to help India post a challenging total.

For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans (5-54) was the standout bowler, recording his first five-wicket haul.

Evans finished with his first ODI five-for while conceding only seven more runs.

His father, the former Zimbabwe all-rounder Craig Evans, who was watching from the stands, applauded as he had Gill caught at long-off for 130 and Shardul Thakur chip a deceptive slower ball to mid-off.

Shikhar Dhawan earlier started off with a flurry of boundaries, driving, cutting, and flicking in the first few overs after KL Rahul won the toss again and chose to bat first this time. Rahul, however, got off to a slow start and took some time to calm down.

The Zimbabwean bowlers, who initially had inconsistent lines and lengths, quickly tightened up as they managed to contain the openers. Nyauchi bowled a maiden to Dhawan, who also received a break when Richard Ngarava put him down at point.

Even after Sikandar Raza’s brilliant century, the hosts fell short by 13 runs.

After losing the series 3-0. Regis Chakabva said, “firstly congratulations to India, I thought they played well. India held their nerves even though Sikandar and Evans gave us the chance. Huge positives today from the bowling. The boys fought really hard on the field. We talk about coming back from tough situations and Raza was brilliant. We definitely take a lot of positives and look at those things down under.”
