Australia’s rookie batsman Peter Handscomb said the team will take a lot of confidence from the record chase of 359 runs. The visitors were able to tick the right boxes as they went all the way. Peter Handscomb played a key role in Australia’s run-chase as he scored his maiden ODI hundred. The right-hander who has a good technique against the spinners batted at the top of his game.

Handscomb scored a majestic knock of 117 runs from 105 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes to get Australia close to the target. The right-hander added an alliance of 192 runs with Usman Khawaja, who continued his good form as he scored 91 off just 99 balls.

Ashton Turner was superb.

Peter Handscomb said Ashton Turner is an amazing player. Turner was able to turn the match on its head as the right-hander batted at the top of his game.

“Ashton (Turner) is an amazing player. We have seen what he has done in the Big Bash League (for Perth Scorchers) for the past couple of years. We knew he can get the job done. The way he operated against Bumrah was quite amazing. This knock will give him so much confidence going forward,” Handscomb said after the famous win on Sunday night.

“That was awesome. No was moving around with all those superstitions coming into play. That’s incredible. To see him come in at international stage and play an innings of this kind is phenomenal.”

On the other hand, Peter Handscomb revealed that he is speechless to describe his feeling. It was a special feeling for Handscomb as his maiden ODI hundred helped Australia in getting over the line.

“It is a lovely feeling. I have no words to describe my feeling. This was the best match of my career so far. This win will give us great momentum for the decider and then the World Cup in England. I am just glad that I contributed in the victory. We will take a lot of confidence from this chase,” Handscomb said after the match.

It was a special knock.

On his maiden century, he said, “I am happy, I did not know I was going to play ODI again and it’s funny how things change. It’s nice to get the opportunity to play for Australia and take it. The faith of selectors to keep me in that was nice. To get it today was pretty special.”

Meanwhile, Handscomb believes the dew made it difficult for the Indian wrist spinners to grip the ball. Thus, they were taken to cleaners by Ashton Turner, who scored a sublime knock of 84 runs off just 43 balls.

“The dew definitely made it difficult for India’s wrist spinners (Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal). Conditions became difficult for them. They are very good bowlers but I think today, we also played them very well,” he said.

Australia made a solid comeback as they won their last two matches to draw level in the series. The decider of the five-match series will take place in Delhi on 13th March.
