India vs Pakistan: Sanju Samson Should Have Been Given The Chance To Play In The Asia Cup: Danish Kaneria

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria believes that Sanju Samson, rather than KL Rahul, should have been picked to Team India’s squad for the 2022 Asia Cup. The latter just returned from injury and COVID issues to lead the squad to a 3-0 ODI series win against Zimbabwe.

Samson just got his first fifties in both white-ball formats, but he did not make the Asia Cup squad. He was also not named among the stand-by players.

Danish Kaneria stated to CricketNext.com that KL Rahul must regain his form before the T20 World Cup:

“KL Rahul should have been given some time off so that he could concentrate on the T20 World Cup that will be played in Australia, and Sanju Samson should have been given the chance to play in the Asia Cup.”

“KL Rahul was coming from a major injury when he traveled to Zimbabwe, and now he is in the Asia Cup squad so early.” India has a Sanju Samson-type player who has been performing admirably. He is a brilliant cricketer who has been playing superbly.”

Samson should have been given more opportunities to play for the national squad, Danish Kaneria added.

“Samson did not frequently have the chance to play for Team India. He was in and out of the team, but now that Rahul Dravid is so familiar with him and is aware of his skill, he is getting opportunities. Sanju Samson ought to have been given the chance to compete in the Asia Cup in such a scenario.”

On August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium, the Indian team will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan (Sunday).
