The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will be held in India from April to June 2023. As is customary before the start of each IPL season, an auction will be held. The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled to take place in February 2023. The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), are having a season to forget.
Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in Indian Premier League history. In 15 seasons, they have won 5 championships from 6 finals. Mumbai is in last place in the IPL 2022 standings, having won only four league games. They will need to begin making tactical decisions in advance of the IPL 2023 auction. Let’s take a look at five players who the Mumbai Indians might retain.
1. Rohit Sharma:
The hitman joined the MI Paltan in 2011, and he has since become an important member of the team. Without hesitation, this man will be the first name on the retention list. Under his leadership, Indians have won the IPL five times.
2. Jasprit Bumrah:
Jasprit Bumrah is another name that will almost certainly be retained. Even the best batsmen in the world are fooled by his short run-up and unusual bowling action. There aren’t many bowlers who can compete with his death bowling abilities. He has indeed been beneficial to Mumbai’s success since joining in 2013.
3. Kieron Pollard:
Although he is from the West Indies, the love and affection he receives from Mumbai Indians make him feel like a hometown town. Since 2010, he has remained committed to his reputation of winning the game by himself. After being a key player for MI for nearly 12 years, it is difficult to overlook a player like Pollard, who has won games for the team when everyone else has given up.
4. Suryakumar Yadav:
Suryakumar has been in great form for MI since joining them at the beginning of 2018. The team’s top-order batsman is one of its most consistent performers. Suryakumar Yadav managed to score 303 runs for Mumbai Indians in eight matches in IPL 2022, with an average of 43.29 and a strike rate of 145.67.
5. Ishan Kishan:
Ishan Kishan is another name that will almost certainly be kept. In the Indian Premier League auction, the Mumbai Indians paid Rs 15.25 crore for Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan (IPL). Kishan has surpassed Shreyas Iyer as the most expensive player sold in the IPL mega auction 2022. In the 2022 Indian Premier League season, Ishan Kishan has scored 418 runs from 14 matches at an average of 32.83, with three half-centuries.
