Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals Match Preview, IPL 2022, Match 55, CSK vs DC
CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (99 & 28 runs) and Devon Conway (85 & 56 runs) have been superb with the bat in the last 2 games against SRH and RCB. Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, and Robin Uthappa have played some good knocks but have been inconsistent across matches. Spin all-rounders Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja are struggling for form and will be eager to return to form in this match.
CSK`s spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Maheesh Theekshana, and Moeen Ali were superb last night with combined figures of 12-0-75-5. Pacers Simarjeet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary will open the bowling in power play followed by all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius in the death overs. They dearly miss the services of Dwayne Bravo in the bowling department.
Simarjeet Singh is expected to keep his place. On the other hand, if Dwayne Bravo is available he will most probably replace Dwaine Pretorius. Dwayne Bravo’s fitness is another headache for CSK. Dwayne Bravo like always has been among the wickets and his absence is definitely hurting CSK’s cause.
Delhi Capitals stormed their way to reach 207/3 in their 20 overs against SRH with David Warner (92 runs) and Rovman Powell (67 runs) sharing an unbeaten 122-run partnership in their last game. Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Marsh, and Prithvi Shaw will join to form a deadly batting combination with all-rounders Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, and Shardul Thakur in the lower order.
Anrich Nortje and Mitchell Marsh’s return further strengthen their bowling attack as both played a crucial role in their victory last night. Khaleel Ahmed and Shardul Thakur shared 5 wickets between themselves in the last game. Kuldeep Yadav is their top wicket-taker with 18 scalps and will be supported by Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav in the spin department.
Prithvi Shaw was ill and replaced by Mandeep Singh, Axar Patel’s injury forced him to sit out in the last game and he got replaced by Ripal Patel. Mustafizur Rahman made way for Anrich Nortje whereas Khaleel Ahmed came in for Chetan Sakariya.
If Prithvi Shaw is available, Mandeep Singh will be making way for the southpaw. On the other hand, if Axar Patel is available he will most probably replace Lalit Yadav in the eleven. Lalit Yadav wasn’t used for bowling in the last game and his batting strike rate is under the scanner.
SRH (10 points), PBKS (10), DC (10), and KKR (8) all have a fighting chance but only two of them will have a chance of making it through. Though the road to the Playoffs has only got tougher, the Delhi Capitals team will need to win at least 2 matches from their remaining 4 matches to finish on 14 points. With their NRR still on the positive side, that could help DC’s case in the future.
RCB virtually eliminated MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings side from the race to the IPL 2022 playoffs as their chances of qualification are now very slim. They currently have three wins and six points to their credit and need to win all of their remaining 4 matches to reach 14 points.
Still, Chennai Super Kings would need a miracle for other teams’ results to go their way. However, despite the mathematical permutation and combination, CSK’s chances for Playoffs qualification hang by a thread as they also need a much better run rate to reach fourth in the standings.
