The first match of the IPL 2022 will have Kolkata Knight Riders take on Chennai Super Kings on 26^th March 2022 at Wankhede Cricket Stadium. Kolkata Knight Riders will be led by a new skipper in Shreyas Iyer this year.

Shreyas Iyer has been in outstanding form and this should keep the team in good stead. He will be their biggest bet in the batting department. Besides, the franchisee will also be banking on the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Ajinkya Rahane, to do the bulk of the scoring.

To add firepower at the death, they have persisted with the services of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. The fans would be hoping that Andre Russell stays fit for the entirety of the tournament. He can be the ‘X’ factor player if gets going.

Kolkata Knight Riders have also managed to buy Pat Cummins back into the team. He should lead the fast bowling department alongside Shivam Mavi and Umesh Yadav. As for the spin, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine will be their biggest bets.

Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, are the defending champions and they would be looking to start the tournament on a winning note. There is no denying that they have managed to put together a pretty good squad. CSK have brought their core players back into the team. Though, they have a few worries for them heading into their first game in the tournament.

Deepak Chahar will miss the major chunk of the season due to injury, while Moeen Ali is unlikely to play the first Test due to visa issues. It will be interesting to see who replaces Moeen Ali for the first match. As of now, it seems like Devon Conway will open the batting alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad and Uthappa is likely to come at three.

The middle-order will have the likes of MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo, etc.  For the fast bowling, they have trusted in the ability of Adam Milne. The Kiwi seamer will spearhead the pace attack.
