In a massive boost for the Punjab Kings side, explosive wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow has completed his mandatory quarantine period and will be available for this game against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. For the Punjab Kings, right-arm pacer Nathan Ellis is still unavailable as he is participating in the ongoing Australia tour of Pakistan 2022.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan had a sedate start to his IPL 2022 season as he scored 43 off 29 balls against RCB but scored only 16 against KKR. He comes to a franchise after having scored almost 1200 runs for Delhi across four seasons.

Punjab Kings bought him for Rs. 8.25 crores during the auction. Last year, Shikhar Dhawan gave a magnificent batting show playing for Delhi Capitals. He scored 587 runs in 16 games in IPL 2021. He is the second-highest run-getter in the history of the IPL with 5843 runs to his name with the help of 2 hundred and 44 half-centuries.

Mayank Agarwal

Appointed as captain of the side, Mayank Agarwal has a lot of experienced players to bank upon. He also started with the bat and will look to have a grand season as captain for the Kings. He scored a good-looking 32 in his first match as captain against RCB but was dismissed in the very 1st over against KKR after scoring 1 run off 5 balls.

Mayank Agarwal gave a good batting show last season. He scored 441 runs in 12 games at an average of 40.09. He also slammed 4 fifties. He had an eventful 2020 season where he scored a spectacular ton against the Rajasthan Royals amassing 424 runs in 11 games. He increased his run tally to 441 runs in the following season and PBKS will want their skipper to continue this trend and score big.

Jonny Bairstow

In his short IPL career, Jonny Bairstow has smashed a total of 1038 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 142.19 averaging 41.52. The English cricketer has notched up as many as 7 fifties and 1 hundred in the IPL.  Tenacious England wicketkeeper-batsman was a new entrant to the IPL who was bought for Rs. 1.5 crore by the SRH team management for the 2019 season.

Since then, he has not put a foot wrong and emerged as one of the most sought-after cricketers. Jonny Bairstow, a member of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning squad, is one of the cleanest strikers of the ball and can win the matches for his team on his own.

PBKS brought him on board for INR 6.75 Crore and Jonny Bairstow, like he has done a number of times, will be out to take the opposition by storm while playing for PBKS.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa

Bhanuka Rajapaksa played an important cameo that helped Punjab take their noses ahead in the contest against RCB, He should retain his place in the XI given that he played so well in his very first two IPL games. He took a special liking to his Sri Lankan teammate Wanindu Hasaranga. He hit two four and four sixes in his knock of 43. He again looked in good touch against KKR top scoring with 31 off only 9 balls including 3 boundaries and as many sixes.

Shahrukh Khan

The Kings splurged 9 crores to rebuy Shahrukh Khan after a promising IPL 2021 season. He made an impact in the very first game scoring an unbeaten 24 and taking his team to a win alongside Odean Smith. He is the assigned finisher in the PBKS lineup alongside Odean Smith.

Last season, he scored 153 runs in 11 matches at an average of 21.86. He scored an unbeaten 24 off 20 balls in Punjab Kings’ win against Bangalore but failed to open his account against Kolkata.

Odean Smith is a hard-hitting left-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast pacer. Odean Smith will play his debut season in IPL. He played some good cameos with the bat and bowled impressive spells in recent India vs West Indies T20I series.

The hard hitter scored 25 off 8 balls to help the Punjab Kings chase down a score of 205 to win. He was roped in by the franchise for 6 crores making him one of the costliest players to join the PBKS franchise. He made up for poor bowling (0/52) with his cameo in the 2nd innings.

Rishi Dhawan

Rishi Dhawan can replace Raj Angad Bawa in the lineup if the management sees that as a potential change. Raj Bawa was out for a first-ball duck with the bat and wasn’t used with the ball either against RCB and scored 11 off 13 in the 2nd game against Kolkata. The all-rounder was his team’s leading run-getter and wicket-taker during their triumphant Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign earlier this year and had an impressive Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season with the ball.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer was one of the only two players retained by Punjab Kings. Arshdeep Singh had a memorable IPL 2021 taking a bagful of wickets and the franchise certainly sees him as a future prospect. It is this season that he has to repay the faith the franchise has placed in him.

Last season, he picked 18 wickets in 12 games for the team at an impressive average of 19.0. He has picked 31 scalps in only 24 games averaging only 22.58 with a best of 5/32 in IPL 2021.

Harpreet Brar

Harpreet Brar will be one of the two spinners in the Kings’ playing XI. He was also rebought by the Punjab Kings. He was a key figure of the PBKS bowling group last year and a part of their upcoming future as well. The franchise bought him for Rs. 3.8 crores during IPL auction. The orthodox spinner made his IPL debut in 2019 and played two games and was retained by PBKS ahead of the 2020 season.

Although he featured only in one game in the 13th edition-IPL 2020, the Punjab Kings showed faith in the left-arm spinner, further retaining him for the 2021 season and he repaid that, putting one of his finest performances against RCB, dismissing Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada will be another pacer for the team. With his experience and pace strength, Kagiso Rabada will be a crucial bowler for the team in IPL 2022. Last season, he was part of the Delhi Capitals and scalped 15 wickets in 15 games. Punjab Kings bought him for Rs. 9.25 crores during the auction.

IPL 2020’s leading wicket-taker (purple cap winner) has picked 77 scalps in only 51 games averaging 20.56. He didn’t play the first game of being in quarantine and scored 26 runs and had bowling figures of 1/23 in the 2nd match against KKR.

Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar completes the Punjab Kings playing XI that the side is expected to feature against KKR. He completes a strong-looking XI on paper and the side has to play together as a unit to beat KKR who have the upper hand on them.

Punjab Kings picked him for Rs. 5.25 crores during the auction. Playing for Mumbai Indians last season, the right-arm spinner scalped 13 wickets in 11 games. Overall, he has picked up 44 scalps in 43 IPL appearances averaging 25.89.
