Kane Williamson will be the skipper of the team in IPL 2022 and lead the side in the opening game. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained the New Zealand batsman for Rs. 14 crores in their squad.

The right-handed batsman opened for the team in their 1st match against Rajasthan as they didn’t have many options for the opener. He scored 266 runs in 10 games last season at an average of 44.33. He managed only 2 runs off 7 balls against Rajasthan though and scored 16 off as many balls against Lucknow while opening the innings with Abhishek Sharma.

Rahul Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 8.5 crores during IPL auction 2021. The right-handed batsman was part of Kolkata Knight Riders last season. He slammed 397 runs in 17 matches at an average of 28.35.

Batting at No. 3, Rahul Tripathi was dismissed without scoring against Rajasthan and would certainly like to make amends. He top-scored with 44 off 30 balls including 5 fours and a six against Lucknow.

Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran will be the wicketkeeper of the team. The West Indies player might also bat in the middle-order. He became the most expensive deal of Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rs. 10.75 crores.

Last season in IPL 2021, the left-handed batsman was part of Punjab Kings. Playing 12 matches, he scored just 85 runs as he struggled with poor form. Like Rahul Tripathi, he was out without scoring against Rajasthan despite playing 9 balls. He scored 34 off 24 balls including 3 fours and 2 sixes against Lucknow, but in a losing cause.

Abdul Samad

Abdul Samad might be another middle-order batsman that the team can pick in the opening game of IPL 2022. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained him for Rs. 4 crores ahead of the auction. Last year, he played 11 matches for the team and scored 111 runs. He scored only 4 runs against Rajasthan and didn’t score against Lucknow, getting out in the first ball. Priyam Garg may replace him.

Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma was picked for Rs. 6.5 crores by Sunrisers Hyderabad during IPL 2022 auction. The franchise re-bought the player in their squad. Last year, Abhishek Sharma scored 98 runs in 8 games at an average of 16.33. He can be another batsman in the middle-order. He will probably drop down the batting order after failure against Rajasthan where he scored only 9 runs off 19 balls and 13 off 11 balls against Lucknow.

Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar might be the spinner and all-rounder that Sunrisers Hyderabad might pick in the playing XI. The team bought him for Rs. 8.75 crores during the auction. Last year, Washington Sundar was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Due to an injury, the left-handed batsman remained out of the team in the UAE leg. In the first leg, he slammed 31 runs in 6 games and picked 3 wickets. He scored 40 off only 14 balls against Rajasthan and should be promoted higher up against Lucknow. He had an off day with the ball (0/47 in 3 overs) against RR but scored 18 and had figures of 2/28 against Luckow in another losing cause.

Romario Shepherd

Romario Shepherd had figures of 2/42 against Lucknow and scored 8 off as many balls after scoring a cameo of 24 off 18 balls against Rajasthan in the 1st game besides taking 1/33. SunRisers Hyderabad bought West Indian all-rounder Romario Shepherd for a price of INR 7.75 crores in the auction.

He came into the limelight after the Caribbean Premier League heroics. He has always been a good T20 bowler, but he proved his batting powers in the CPL 2021. For Guyana Amazon Warriors, he scalped 18 wickets at 7.69, whereas he had a batting strike rate of 165.15.

He won some really tough games for the Guyana Amazon Warriors as a finisher. In IPL 2020, he replaced Dwayne Bravo in the Chennai Super Kings, but he could not get a game. He debuted in IPL 2021 with the SunRisers Hyderabad.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

In IPL 2021, he picked up 6 wickets in 11 games. He was the most economical bowler (7.2) against Rajasthan in SRH’s first match in IPL 2022 picking up opponent skipper Sanju Samson’s scalp. He was wicketless against Lucknow (0/25).

T Natarajan

T Natarajan was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 4 crores during IPL 2022 auction. He was also part of the team in the last season. The left-arm pacer played 2 matches and picked 2 wickets. Following 2 games, he faced an injury and was ruled out of the tournament. T Natarajan had figures of 2/43 against Rajasthan picking scalps of Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag. He registered figures of 2/26 against Lucknow.

Umran Malik

Umran Malik was still waiting to debut even as IPL 2021 went into its final week of the league stage. He got a go in the last three games Sunrisers Hyderabad played; while two months later, he had the distinction of being the player to have featured in the fewest IPL matches before being retained.

Umran Malik had the best bowling figures of 2/39 against Rajasthan in the opening game dismissing Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal. He was expensive against Lucknow, leaking 39 runs in 3 overs.
