Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming admitted that they need to improve in all three departments after an eight-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

This is the worst start for the four-time IPL champions as they recorded their fourth straight loss in IPL 2022. CSK are languishing at the bottom of the points table after four games.

CSK drubbed by SRH in an eight-wicket loss

CSK posted 154/7 as Moeen Ali top-scored with 48 off 35 deliveries and skipper Ravindra Jadeja hit a quickfire 15-ball 23 at the end of the innings. SRH opener Abhishek Sharma scored 75 off 50 balls, his innings was laced with five fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 150 and Rahul Tripathi blazed 39 runs in 15 balls as SRH romped to an eight-wicket win with 14 balls to spare.

We are not being close to winning any games: Stephen Fleming

Fleming criticised CSK’s approach in the last four games and admitted that they are not even fighting to win. The former New Zealand skipper also mentioned the back to back losses have adversely impacted players’ self-confidence.

“I think it’s clear. Batting, bowling and fielding is what we need to work on. And moving forward we improve batting, bowling, and fielding. We were well outplayed today. We’re sort of learning. We’ve got some issues around player availability, and in some areas a little bit underpowered, that we are just looking for players to step up,” Fleming said in the post-match press conference.

“And we haven’t had any evidence that sort of helps the belief. We are not winning any games. Not being close to winning any games, you get a bit of self-doubt, and the players get a little bit niggly. So, we just got to work through that pretty quickly and try to find some rhythm and get back in the tournament,” he added.

CSK will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 12 at the same venue.
