Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and opted to bat first. They made just one change in the playing XI as Krishnappa Gowtham replaced pacer Avesh Khan in the team. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals made no changes to the playing XI.
Mustafizur Rahman opened the attack for Delhi Capitals against Lucknow Super Giants openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock and he conceded 6 runs in the over. The second over was a big one for LSG as the batters smashed 16 runs to the left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya.
In the 3rd over Axar Patel gave away 3 runs and Lalit Yadav got smashed for 16 runs in the 4th over.
Pacer Shardul Thakur got the first breakthrough for DC by dismissing opener Quinton de Kock on the 2nd ball of the 5th over. De Kock scored 23 runs off 13 balls, including 3 fours and one six.
Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman conceded 8 runs in the 6th over and at the end of the powerplay, Lucknow Super Giants were at 57/1 with KL Rahul at 18 and Deepak Hooda at 12.
Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul completed 50 runs partnership in 33 balls, with Rahul contributing 18 and Hooda contributing 32. Also, Lucknow Super Giants reached the 100 runs mark in 10.3 overs.
Rahul completed his half-century off 35 balls in the 13th over and Hooda completed his half-century off 32 balls in the 14th over.
LSG skipper and Hooda had a 95 runs partnership in 61 balls before Shardul Thakur broke the partnership by dismissing Hooda, who scored 52 runs off 34 balls, including 6 fours and one six.
Meanwhile, Rahul smashed 77 runs off 51 balls, including 4 fours and 5 sixes before getting dismissed on the 4th ball of the 19th over, which was bowled by Shardul Thakur.
In the end, Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya helped Lucknow Super Giants post 195/3 on the board.
Chasing the target, Prithvi Shaw got dismissed for 5 on the 2nd ball of the second over, which was bowled by Dushmantha Chameera. In the 3rd over, Chameera also dismissed David Warner for 3 as Ayush Badoni grabbed a terrific catch.
After losing the openers, Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh batted aggressively and at the end of the powerplay, Delhi Capitals were at 66/2.
Krishnappa Gowtham broke the Pant-Marsh partnership by dismissing Mitchell Marsh on his first delivery of the match. Marsh walked back after the umpire raised the finger on the caught-behind appeal. However, later the replay showed there was no connection between bat and ball. Marsh’s innings ended at 37 runs off 20 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Meanwhile, skipper Rishabh Pant, who looked brilliant out in middle got out in the 13th over, which was bowled by Mohsin Khan. His innings ended at 44 runs off 30 balls including 7 fours and one six.
In the end, Rovman Powell and Axar Patel played sensational innings but they were unable to help Delhi Capitals win the match over Lucknow Super Giants.

Mohsin khan’s wicket of Rishabh pant was a turning point of the game. Impressive young bowler.

Axar Patel hasn't won this. But worth remembering he is scoring at nearly a run a ball more than last year. Like he's found his turbo button.

17 Extras (13 Wides) lost @DelhiCapitals the game today. Ugh.

#DCvsLSG #IPL2022 Even though the odds were difficult, Axar Patel should have taken the singles in the last over. Kuldeep Yadav hit a six off the first ball, could have been his day. You may never know .
— Tejas Bhatkar (@TejasBhatkar2) May 1, 2022
And it did. They've lost by 6 runs. Fewer wides would have helped. Great effort from Powell and Axar though. #DCvLSG #LSGvDC #IPL2022 https://t.co/i2hfxkECkr

Delhi have been a strange team this year. No fire at all in their batting #DCvsLSGT

We want different captain Rishabh pant is not fit for the team he needs to be more fit not bulky— Noon Kaur02 (@KaurNoon) May 1, 2022
DC Need A Better Lineup. Try KS Bharat In Place Of Lalit Yadav And Find A Replacement For Shardul Thakur. Play Axar Only If You Need His Batting His Bowling Is Not Upto The Mark This Season. Make Kuldeep Bowl Three Overs Atleast. Use Nagarkoti, Ripal Patel. #DCvLSG

You can’t play a t20 league without 2-3 solid finishers ! This team doesn’t have them ; middle order doesn’t fire , bowling is average .. say good bye to playoffs .. feeling sad @DelhiCapitals.. been a fan since the inception of #ipl ..wondering why ?? Like me many r thinking
