Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in the second match of the IPL 2022 on March 27, 2022, in the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. And DC captain Rishabh Pant was all praises for left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, whose 3/18 proved to be the deciding factor.

Rohit Sharma’s MI was put in to bat first by Rishabh Pant who won the toss. For Mumbai Indians, Tilak Varma, Tymal Mills, Daniel Sams, Tim David, and Basil Thampi made their debuts. On the other hand for the Delhi Capitals, Tim Seifert, Rovman Powell, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti made their debuts for the franchise.

MI managed to make 177/5 thanks to 41 from skipper Rohit Sharma and a sublime unbeaten 81 with 11 fours and 2 sixes from opener Ishan Kishan. The total could have been much more had Kuldeep Yadav not taken the wickets of Rohit Sharma after he had gotten set and Kieron Pollard for cheap. His third wicket was that of Anmolpreet Singh, as he finished with 3/18 in four overs.

Rishabh Pant in the post-match conversation praised Kuldeep Yadav’s performance.

He said: “It is one of the best spells of Kuldeep in a long time. He was just giving it his everything in the nets and at practice. It is important to not be complacent after just one match.”

Talking about the lack of overseas players and the team combination they went with, Pant said: “At the back of our minds with us losing wickets, we felt it was gone, but we just kept believing. We tried to focus on controllables. We knew we didn’t have a lot of manpower with Mitch Marsh and Warner not here. But we just wanted to make use of whatever we had.”
