Delhi Capitals (DC) spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel has said that the reason behind wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav struggling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was his insecurity in the playing XI.
Delhi Capitals (DC) left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav performed exceptionally well in the match against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 27. Kuldeep Yadav finished his 4 overs quota with 3 wickets in his bag for just 18 runs and he won the Player of the Match award as well.
While talking about Kuldeep at the post-match media conference, Axar said that Delhi Capitals have provided Kuldeep with the security in the playing XI, which brought the best out of him.
“It’s all about the mindset. He was struggling in the IPL as his place was not secured for KKR. He was not sure whether he will play all their matches,” Axar said at the post-match media conference when asked about the secret of Kuldeep’s turnaround.
“But he feels that surety of playing matches after coming over here. If you know your place is secured, and not that you have to perform in two matches otherwise you will be sacked from the team, then you can give your best.”
Even during the practice we tell him you can do well – Axar Patel on Kuldeep Yadav
The Delhi Capitals all-rounder added that the DC head coach Ricky Ponting and skipper Rishabh Pant extended support to Kuldeep and gave him a sense of security.
“The way (head coach) Ricky (Ponting), other coaches and the captain (Rishabh Pant) extended the support to him, he could give his best,” he said after Delhi recorded a stunning four-wicket win over Mumbai Indian here on Sunday.
“Even during the practice we tell him you can do well. It’s about that surety. He has got that mental shift that he will play all matches so he is able to give his best.”
While Chasing the big target of 178 runs against MI, Delhi Capitals lost the quick wickets of the top-order batters but the middle-order and lower-order batting unit, which consisted of Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur batted brilliantly.
Shardul Thakur played an amazing cameo knock of 22 runs at a strike rate of 200. Also, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel batted incredibly well and snatched the win away from Mumbai Indians (MI).
“We never lost hope, we knew we could bat deep. Ricky always said never give up hope, never thought we were out of the game. We just followed our instincts. On this wicket, you can always accelerate, so it was about taking the game deep,” Patel said.
