DC vs SRH: 'Not How The Game Is Played' - David Warner When Rovman Powell Asked If He Should Take A Single To Allow Warner To Score His Hundred

Delhi Capitals (DC) opener David Warner unselfishly asked fellow teammate, Rovman Powell, to go big in the final over with Warner batting on 92* against his former team, Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Warner played a stunning knock against SRH on Thursday, disdainfully smashing the bowlers all around the park. He was well set to reach his hundred with 6 balls remaining.

In the final over bowled by Umran Malik, Powell took charge and smashed a six and three fours, leaving Warner on 92* at the other end. Powell went on to reveal his chat with Warner in the last over.

“I got winded at the end. I asked DW if I should get a single to allow his 100 but he told me, ‘that’s not how the game is played’, and told me to go big.”

“Sometimes, I could not hit it as well as I wanted to, some of the swings were planned. The wicket was good, I planned and shaped up for the full and slower balls and the shots came off towards the end,” Powell told the broadcasters after the first innings.

Powell told the skipper, Rishabh Pant, that he wanted to bat higher up the order against the spinners. Although Powell has struggled against the spinners this season, his confidence worked out and he went on to make 67 in 35 balls.

“I chatted with Rishabh about my batting position, I told him to trust me at 5 as my game against spin. I tried to get in for 15 balls and then accelerate in the next 20.”

“The pitch is a very good one and the ball is coming on well but I think we have enough, we need to get wickets at the top and should be able to defend this,” Powell further added.
