Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders, KKR Playing 11 vs DC (Predicted), IPL 2022, Match 41, DC vs KKR. Delhi Capitals, placed 7th in IPL 2022 points table can consider themselves unlucky in the last game against Rajasthan Royals when they missed crossing the line with a whisker.

They will now take on one of their former skipper Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders, placed 8th in match no 41 of Tata IPL 2022 on 28th April at 7:30 pm. Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will be hosting this match.

Both teams will be looking for a win desperately as they want to get into the playoffs before things get out of their hands.  The Shreyas Iyer-led team Kolkata Knight Riders showed prominence in the opening few games but suddenly has lost momentum and now found themselves in a hollow space with 3 wins and 5 losses from 8 games.

Kolkata Knight Riders are struggling to find a perfect combination even after 8 games. The likes of Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, and Varun Chakravarthy have been total failures, and this is hitting Knight Riders hard.

Varun Chakravarthy

KKR made a tough call of benching Pat Cummins in the last game. It was a gamble, but it definitely paid dividends with Tim Southee making the most of the opportunity. With the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, and Nitish Rana too facing the heat, KKR needs to make some tough calls.

Varun Chakravarthy’s space in the eleven is definitely under the scanner. Aman Khan, Anukul Roy, or Harshit Rana could come in for the mystery spinner who has been totally out of sorts this season.

Rinku Singh

Kolkata Knight Riders batters have not been able to perform consistently with skipper Shreyas Iyer (248 runs) and Andre Russell (227 runs) being the top run-scorers. Nitish Rana and Ventakesh Iyer have made very less effect barring a solitary fifty. Aaron Finch and Sheldon Jackson might be included at the expense of Sam Billings and Rinku Singh in this match.

Sunil Narine has an impressive economy of 5.37 runs per over. Tim Southee has been excellent in limited opportunities picking up 8 wickets in just 3 matches. Andre Russell is taking vital wickets in death but is giving away runs at over 10 runs per over. Umesh Yadav, KKR’s leading wicket-taker this season seems to have lost a bit of rhythm from the excellent season start while Varun Chakravarthy is having a disastrous season.

Aaron Finch

Kolkata Knight Riders signed Aaron Finch as a replacement for England batter Alex Hales for the IPL 2022. Aaron Finch is Australia’s maiden ICC T20 World Cup-winning captain in 2021. Aaron Finch, who has played more than 80 IPL games and has over 2000 IPL runs, joined KKR at the price of INR 1.5 crore.

When it comes to IPL, Aaron Finch is no stranger having played for eight other franchises since his IPL debut in 2010. He debuted for KKR against Hyderabad but scored only 7 runs. He though scored 58 in 28 balls against Rajasthan in a losing cause. He has scored 65 runs so far in 2 innings. He missed the match against Gujarat for an injury but is likely to return against Delhi Capitals.

Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer

The all-around option which Venkatesh Iyer brings to the team is indispensable. Venkatesh Iyer would want to produce a repeat of his heroics last year. Venkatesh Iyer, who opened for Kolkata Knight Riders last time and is a medium pacer had a sensational run in the UAE leg of IPL 2021 by amassing 370 runs in just 10 games averaging 41.11 with 4 fifties.

He returned to form against Mumbai in IPL 2022, with his unbeaten 50 crucial in the team’s victory. He has scored 126 runs so far in 8 IPL 2022 games averaging 18 but couldn’t replicate the previous season’s form. He may be asked to open again against Delhi Capitals after batting down the order in the last few IPL 2022 games.

Nitish Rana

Nitish Rana

Nitish Rana was brought for 8 crores by his previous team and Kolkata Knight Riders would expect the left-handed batter to prove his worth before it gets late. Nitish Rana could do some real damage to the opposition. He has amassed 143 runs in 8 IPL 2022 games averaging 17.88 including a fifty (54) coming in the game against Hyderabad.

The left-handed batter had a prolific start to the previous IPL season but lost his way in the middle to end up with 383 runs in 16 innings at an average of 29.46 with two half-centuries. He may also open as KKR is struggling to find the correct opening combinations.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has been acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders in the recently-conducted 2022 IPL auction for a whopping sum of Rs 12.25 crore. He has scored 248 runs so far in 8 IPL 2022 games averaging 35.43 including 2 fifties and is the franchise’s leading run-getter so far this season.

Shreyas Iyer aggregated 204 runs without being dismissed across three innings against Sri Lanka in recently concluded T20Is at a highly impressive strike rate of 174.36. He registered scores of 57*(28), 74*(44), and 73*(45) across three games.

Andre Russell

‘Muscle’ Andre Russell has been a match-winner for Kolkata Knight Riders over the years and won games single-handedly. Andre Russell is off late struggling with hamstring and knee injuries. Andre Russell scored 183 runs and picked up 11 wickets in IPL 2021. In the last two seasons, Andre Russell’s performance has been below par.

He has scored 227 runs so far in 8 IPL 2022 games averaging 45.4 including an unbeaten 70 in a match-winning innings against Punjab and is KKR’s 2nd leading run-getter and 2nd leading wicket-taker so far this season. He has also picked 10 scalps in 8 games averaging 15.3. His strike rate with the bat is 180.15 this season.

Baba Indrajith (wk)

Baba Indrajith has been a prolific run-scorer for Tamil Nadu over the years and was one of the spines of Tamil Nadu’s middle-order after veteran S Badrinath moved out of the state in 2014. In 2022 he hit a green patch scoring runs at will in the Ranji Trophy and showcasing his wide array of shots that has impressed many. His twin identical brother Baba Aparajith is a cricketer too.

He is yet to make his IPL debut and KKR could look at giving this young gun a good game time in the 2022 IPL season. Besides batting, he is a keeper too who can open and hence may be an option to replace out-of-form keeper Sheldon Jackson. Abhijeet Tomar is also an option for the opening slot.

Tim Southee

Tim Southee may replace Pat Cummins who has been too expensive. The New Zealand pace great is likely to replace Aussie pacer Pat Cummins who scored the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history against Mumbai but has been ineffective and too expensive with the ball. One of the best swing ball bowlers in the world Tim Southee was bought in by Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 at the auction for 1.5 CR.

Tim Southee has played 3 matches in IPL 2022 and picked up 8 wickets averaging a mere 10 at an economy rate of 6.66. He may be preferred ahead of Pat Cummins who has picked only 4 scalps in 4 games averaging a high 47.5 at a steep economy rate of 12 runs per over.

Sunil Narine

Even after all these years, Sunil Narine remains one of the toughest bowlers to face in the IPL. He isn’t as mysterious as he once was but Sunil Narine is still outfoxing batters. Sunil Narine has picked up 16 wickets and scored 62 runs in IPL 2021. He is on the list of top 10 wicket-takers in IPL history.

Since 2014, he has played for Kolkata Knight Riders. He has picked 6 scalps in 8 games in IPL 2022 so far averaging 28.66 and has been extremely economical-5.37 runs per over. He has scored only 27 runs in 5 innings averaging a pathetic 5.4 with the bat but KKR may promote him again as an opener or use him as a pinch hitter in the middle overs.

Umesh Yadav

KKR managed to lift the IPL title when Umesh Yadav was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad during the 2014 edition. He has picked 11 scalps in 8 IPL 2022 games so far averaging a mere 21.63 and is KKR’s leading wicket-taker this season. He couldn’t replicate the success in the first few games in more recent outings. He has also scored 55 runs.

Umesh Yadav became only the fourth bowler after Brett Lee, Chaminda Vaas and Iqbal Abdullah picked up a wicket in the first over of a fresh season of the IPL. Umesh Yadav finished with 2/20 against CSK in an economical spell in the 1st IPL 2022 match.

Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi made his IPL debut for KKR in 2018 but picked up just 5 wickets. A stress fracture in his back ruled him out of playing competitive cricket since December 2019 and after spending most of his time in rehab, Shivam Mavi was fit and raring to go in the 2020 edition.

He played in 8 games and picked up 9 wickets in the 2020 IPL season and in the 2021 edition, he picked 11 wickets that included a 4-wicket haul against Rajasthan Royals. KKR has had immense faith in Shivam Mavi over the years and was brought back for a whopping INR 7.25 crore.

He has picked 3 scalps in 4 IPL 2022 matches averaging 48 and has an economy rate of 10.28, but will play for the lack of bowling resources of Kolkata Knight Riders.

Anukul Roy

With Krunal Pandya being the senior left-arm spinner in the side, Anukul Roy had to wait for his turn but he did make his IPL debut in 2019 for Mumbai Indians and picked up one wicket from the only game that he played.

Although he didn’t get a game in the 13th edition of the tournament, he significantly made it count as a substitute fielder, picking crucial catches at crucial points of time for the Mumbai Indians. He was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 IPL Auction. He is in line to replace Varun Chakravarthy.

Varun Chakravarthy has picked only 4 scalps in 8 games at an average of 61.75 unlike the previous two seasons, where he picked a combined 38 wickets in 28 matches averaging below 25 on both occasions.
