Kumar Sangakkara, the Rajasthan Royals cricket director and head coach lauded spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin and said the franchise was surprised to get them at the auctions.

Shimron Hetmyer’s undefeated 59 and a 4 wicket haul from Yuzvendra Chahal assisted the Rajasthan Royals in beating the Lucknow Super Giants by three runs here at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

We Never Expected To Get Them Both At Auctions: Sangakkara

“I think they’re the two best spinners around by far. They play really well, they play well individually. They’re both aware of their skills and strengths. We never expected to get them both at auctions, let alone. “But we were lucky and lucky to have them and all we try to do is support them. They just come out and lead our attack and they’ve been great,” Sangakkara said at a post-match press.

Everyone Impressed The Way Kuldeep Sen Handled His First Game: Sangakkara

In the last over, Sanju Samson led Rajasthan who had to protect 15 runs, and the rookie Kuldeep Sen, who held on to his nerves against the incomparable Marcus Stoinis to lead the team to the third triumph in four games and move to the top of the table with 6 points.

“I had no conversation with Kuldeep about the final. I think Sanju, Jos and other players around him supported him. We had pretty simple plans to play bowling to the death. I just want to say how impressed everyone was and especially me, the way he handled his first game and played with the right lengths in the toughest final, “Sangakkara said.

Shielding a 166-run target, the inaugural champions required a few early wickets and Trent Boult did precisely that by giving Lucknow a twofold blow, terminating opposition captain KL Rahul and Krishnappa Gowtham for golden ducks.

The Rajasthan Royals also struggled at one point with 67 for 4, but Shimron Hetmyer’s 59-run knock compiled of 6 sixes helped them to record 165/6 in 20 overs.
