This all hullabaloo happened when a fake Twitter handle with the name of Tata IPL – Indian Premier League (@Tata_IPL) shared a photo of Suresh Raina in a morphed image wearing a jersey with Gujarat Titans’ logo, saying that he was brought in to replace Jason Roy, who pulled out of the IPL 2022 due to bio-bubble fatigue. The fake tweet has garnered over 300 Retweets, 3100 Likes on micro-blogging site, Twitter so far.

“Gujarat Titan replaced Jason Roy by Suresh Raina for IPL2022. #GujaratTitans #SureshRaina,” it tweeted.

However, it has to be noted that the handle, the image shared of Suresh Raina with GT jersey and the news that he had replaced Jason Roy were fake. The official handle of IPL is twitter.com/IPL.

Chennai Super Kings Reveal Why They Let Go Of Suresh Raina And Didn’t Bid For Him In IPL 2022 Auction

Suresh Raina is called Mr. IPL thanks to over 5000 runs in 205 IPL games with one century and has been part of CSK’s all four IPL title wins in 2010,2011, 2018, and 2021. He also led CSK in a few matches when MS Dhoni was not available.

Hence when his name came up for bidding in the IPL 2022 mega auction, there was dead silence with not one franchise bidding for the former India batter including CSK and he went unsold despite keeping his base price for INR 2 crores.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan explained their rationale behind not bidding for Raina: “Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, not to have Raina but at the same time, you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that’s one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team.”
