Gujarat Titans (GT) began their campaign with a victory over fellow newbies, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Game 4 of the IPL 2022 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Chasing a target of 159, Gujarat was in trouble having lost the first two wickets within three overs. Captain Hardik Pandya promoted himself to No.4 and played a breezy cameo of 33 off 28 balls before being dismissed by his brother.

Matthew Wade and David Miller also chipped in with similar handy cameos before Rahul Tewatia saw the team through in the dying stages against the death bowling of Dushmantha Chameera and Avesh Khan.

Earlier, Mohammed Shami ran through the top order of LSG. He dismissed KL Rahul off the very first ball of the innings before rattling the stumps of Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey in successive overs.

Deepak Hooda then combined with the debutante, Ayush Badoni, to revive the innings with a 87-run association. Both scored fifties before being dismissed. Krunal Pandya played a 13-ball 21-run knock to further propel the score to 158/6.

The returning Varun Aaron took 2 wickets but ended up conceding a whopping 45 runs in his four overs. Shami returned figures of 3/25 while Afghanistan spinner, Rashid Khan, took 1/27 in his 4-over spell.

As for the Lucknow bowling attack, Chameera was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/22. However, Rahul surprisingly ended up bowling one over short of Chameera, which may have come back to haunt him at the end.
