Mumbai Indians had a season to forget in IPL 2022. For the first time ever in an IPL season they lost 10 matches. They lost their first 8 games on the trot won the next two and lost two of their last four games. The five-time IPL champions struggled to buy a win throughout the season.

The tension was palpable on the faces of the management coach and captain. Nothing went right in terms of strategies for Rohit Sharma. He also had a dull season with the bat where he failed to score even one fifty-plus score. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene spoke about the players not having belief in their own ability to win games for their side.

The southpaw scored 397 runs in the season with two fifties to his name. He batted with a lot of responsibility and maturity in the middle-order and helped the Mumbai innings move forward. He often found himself alone trying to recover the early slide. He managed to create an impact in his very first innings and established himself as one of the key members of the side already for the future.

Dewald Brevis

Brevis was full of youthful exuberance in IPL 2022. He played a few handy innings which included a few delightful strokes. He has moulded his game on AB De Villiers and there were a few glimpses of the same in the season. With Kieron Pollard having an off season and he and Tim David were two key players in the middle-order. He ended the season with 161 runs from seven games striking at over 140.

He was given two games initially in the season but then took the centerstage coming in as a replacement for Kieron Pollard. David scored a couple of crucial 40s in the season and hit as many as 16 sixes with a strike rate of over 200. David is most likely to be given a national call-up soon as confirmed by Australia’s white-ball skipper Aaron Finch.
