IPL 2022: Aakash Chopra Praises Rajasthan Royals' Strategy To Buy Overseas Players During Auction

Former Indian player Aakash Chopra praised Rajasthan Royals’ strategy to buy overseas players during IPL 2022 auction. Chopra said that picking Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rassie van der Dussen, James Neesham, and Daryl Mitchell in the auction was like hitting 4 consecutive sixes.

Rajasthan Royals had picked only 4 overseas players until the very end of IPL 2022 auction. However, in the last five minutes, the IPL 2008 champions bought Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rassie van der Dussen, James Neesham, and Daryl Mitchell, picking them at a relatively low price.

It Was Like Carlos Braithwaite Hitting Four Sixes: Aakash Chopra

While speaking on his Youtube channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra said that Rajasthan Royals’ auction strategy in the last five minutes was like Carlos Brathwaite hitting four sixes.

“The way they picked four overseas players in the last five minutes, it was like Carlos Braithwaite hitting four sixes. That was the killer, what a beautiful job they did to get (Nathan) Coulter Nile, Rassie (van der Dussen), (James) Neesham as well as Daryl Mitchell. There are no issues of availability for this team,” Aakash Chopra said.

The cricketer-turned-commentator also feels that Devdutt Padikkal will emerge as the top run-getter for the team.

“Devdutt Padikkal will be the highest run-scorer for RR this season. I see him opening alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Although this is an Achilles heel as Buttler will bat down the order but I still feel Padikkal will be the highest run-scorer,” Aakash Chopra said.

During IPL 2022 auction, Rajasthan Royals picked Nathan Coulter-Nile for Rs. 2 crores, Rassie Van Der Dussen for Rs. 1 crore, Daryl Mitchell for Rs. 75 lakh, and James Neesham for Rs. 1.5 crores. Sanju Samson is going to lead the team in IPL 2022.

Rajasthan Royals will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening game of IPL 2022. The match is scheduled to take place on March 29 at MCA Stadium in Pune. IPL 2022 begins on March 26 with Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders opener.
